What's going on with War Without End?

Hi!

Like an EA Explorer, I've only infrequently been jumping in to see how things are faring - the only proper topic I've been involved in was the one for seeing if the Orieni could be added to ACTA and the RPG - and I was wondering what the current status of War Without End (ie the successor to GROPOS) is?

It just so happens that there is a store in Toronto that has some of the old GROPOS minis lying around, and it would be a waste for them to simply gather dust...

Also, the Orieni Empire would be a great addition to the engine, as they were involved in several major planetary assaults and so forth with the Centauri in their major War - and if a modified version of the 'Great Crusade' concept went forth, they could fight the Minbari and associated ISA races, too.

On the back burner my friend. Maybe WAY in the back. We have some basic playtest rules but the project was shelved. Supposedly when the game is developed further it will be a full ground combat game as opposed to the "lite" tank bash we were looking at.

Nope.

The Firgga, Thor and Valkyrie (same from GROPOS, right?)were units that were going to be used. No Gaurantee those will stay as units in the game if it sees the light of day but if you can pick them up cheap at your LGS you might eventually get to use them.

Well, some consistant support would go a long way and and more than the vague promise of future releases. Epic in all it's incarnations has been my fave game for a long time. Poor Jervis got shafted by the EE.

I got to see a demo at the last B5 open day (cheers Greg). It was promising but did favour the tanks.

Cheers

Hi 1-1. Is LBH still eternally grateful? (as an aside, Claudia signed my B5 CCG Susna Ivanova card in wipe-clean pen and it's slowly fading away!).

All went well in getting here although it took 8 weeks for our gear to get here via seafrieght (10 weeks with no gaming stuff!).

Gamingwise I've attended a few 'cons and I've run a some demos of Starship Troopers at the nearby Tin Soldier stores and at the cons, to good results. I think I'm an MI now but no one's actually told me that (Marc's emails don't get to unless forwarded by Alex and I haven't had much feedback).

There is a gaming club in the nearby town of Penrith, but it only meets monthly (a cut back after my previous weekly club) and I've only managed to attend one meeting. The big games here are WHFB, 40K, Warmachine/Hordes and Flames of War (a NZ made WW2 game). No Mongoose :( . I've got good feedback from SST but people are going to wait for SST:E and ACtA is much more expensive here.

Paintingwise I've just finished my Grizzly squad (each with sixgun and firestorm) and officer (2x sixgun) for that book-true game-losing four figures and a truckful of nukes army.

Other parts of my life: The house we are in was riddled with termite damage so a lot of the timber studwork has been replaced. (We'e planning on renovating the whole place anyway). After a break for Christmas I'm slowly demolishing the old timber deck out the back - our seventh skip is being delivered on Tuesday.

Culture shock has been minimal - it's funny how much is just the same but a warm Christmas was odd (it's very hot right now). The Ashes was grim and television as a whole is appalling. Don't know when I'll get to see The Runaway Bride and I've had to order the DVDs for Torchwood.

Still, when I stop and think about it I miss my family, Winter, my old gaming group and Mongoose events, but don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it here. Working on the house, new friends, new life - it's an adventure. Haven't been to the beach yet though.

Well, that was OT wasn't it. Still not much news on WWE at the moment.

For those that know we and are passing through Sydney, get in touch!

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Gald to hear things are going great.
LBH is still buying the beer even when he came to stay for the weekend

Nice to see you are spreading the Mongoose word down under, we have had great problems getting people out of the GW mindset in our club but when you get them out in to the big wide world they love it :)

Sounds a bit crap about the TV, I would ask one of your family to tape Brit TV for you

Good luck with the house stuff.
Hope to see at Mongoose towers some time

what could be good, si a source book, ie a book with all the units in and stats for WWE but uses the BF-evo rules, and would exsplian due to scale of advancment of weaponary that severl troops are grouped on one base for example.

we would effectivly have one set of rules to learn for BF-eo SST Evo and WWE but each would have a few spins to make them different but essentualy the same simplicity and cross polanisation.

just my view, and would cut playtest time down, and development.

My brother was supposed to tape The runaway Bride for me - but forgot!

I think that for the scale of WWE you need mechanics that reflect that. At WWE scale you need tanks to have only one, or at best, 2 hits. Having each little model having Hits/6 (or whatever) will be a little cumbersome and the Fire Zone mechanic doesn't seem appropriate.

Cheers
