State of the Mongoose 2024

Regarding ownership of traveller IP and TAS on DriveThru, the guidelines still refer to the current Mongoose setting - I am assuming this means that material from, say, GURPS Traveller is still off limits? Is that likely to change in the near future?
That is correct, no plans to change that as yet.

Will we do anything else for Classic Traveller? This will depend very much on the reception to Book 9: Pirate, though it has to be said that interest on social media for it has already far exceeded what we had expected, so… maybe? We have already had some (very) vague discussions for Supplement 14…

Uh, probably want to fix the 'Pirates' on the cover before going to print...

Are there any (even vague) future plans for a Mongoose Traveller system based version of Twilight 2000? I have been writing (and selling through the Free League Community program) a lot of stuff for their version of TW 2000 but, frankly, their system is horrible compared to Mongoose Traveller and I would be glad to be shot of it and be able to write for a system which isn't some horrible Mad Max Howling Wilderness clone!

A reasonably priced robot that flawlessly packed up all of our mail orders would be lovely.

Um…

You have an instruction manual on how to build one…

Has anybody thought of promoting Traveller through an 'Adventurer’s League’ or Pathfinder-style promotion? I’d happily run ‘official’ Traveller games in store if given the opportunity.

Also, what sort of promotions go on in game conferences around the world?

We did. Would be nice to bring some or all back, but I don't think we are the ones to do it. Again, conversations to be had.
I agree. Licensing them to a good boardgame company seems wise. Plus I bet there'd be a stream of boardgamers to the RPGs from that.
I'd let the boardgame company have free reign on design and *also mechanics* ..

A T2K Traveller system based version would be good especially if they did two campaigns, one in 2000 and another based in the near future say 2040.
In addition they could also use it to resurrect their Armageddon 2089 RPG from twenty years ago.

Ine Givar
Ine Givar has become one of the major "factions" in my Pirates of Drinax campaign. I thought I took the name for it from a random table. And now an entire dedicated book is coming. I can't wait for it!

Those video game screenshots give me vibes of the modern remake of Carrier Command, where most of the action is via the players directing remote action from the bridge. I wonder if the intended gameplay is similar. (If so, I would lose the "walking simulator" parts and have people just click from bridge station to bridge station, like in Independence War/I-War and the original Carrier Command.)

I heard a rumour that an online Traveller character generator might be coming (in Freelance Traveller's recent report on Travcon). Is this official?

If you do ever make plans to talk to SJG.... *cough* TranshumanSpacewithTravellerrules *cough* ...that would be great.

Regards,
Robin
I’d quite like this - not least because it could be released using S.I. units rather than the mishmash Imperial units used with GURPS.

Actually, you could possibly licence out Traveller to SJGames for them to kickstart GURPS Traveller if there is royalty fees.

Totally agree!!! I would run ‘official’ Traveller games in store as well. Allowing players to jump into a game for an night with pregens, is a great way to get players interested, get them buying the game, and getting retailers to carry the game in their store.

With the Classic Traveller line looking to get reinvigorated, would it be possible to produce a booklet that details conversion notes between the Mongoose Traveller and Classic Traveller lines? You could do it with other lines of Traveller editions also - to maximise the overall compatibility of all Traveller products.

I may have missed it, but any progress on the Digest Group Publications IP for MegaTraveller?
Conversations are being had, things look hopeful...

This is certainly something being considered but it will be a while in coming.

This is something that would require a massive amount of support - and a marketing person to manage it...

Very vague. If Free League decide that they want to step away, we will step up and it would likely be Traveller. But absolutely no plans to do this in the near future.

Those two Journals were copyright GDW rather than DGP so MWM has had the rights to them since he got Traveller back.
