Universe of Babylon 5 weapons

Mongoose
Simple question really. Some of the weapons have auto as yes. What's that supposed to mean? IIRC(I COULD be wrong though as no games in ages=haven't read main rules for a long time) automatic weapons had value like auto 4, auto 6 etc which meant how many dices you rolled from which to make pairs.

What is auto: yes supposed to mean? How many dices PPG for example rolls?´

Same thing in both printed book and PDF. So what gives?

"Comprehensive rules govern everything from character creation through to Starfury combat with Traveller's tried and tested systems tailored to the unique environment of Babylon 5. All you need is the Universe of Babylon 5 book and the main Traveller rules set - and your own imagination! "

Yes? Haven't seen auto value for PPG anywhere in the main rulebook. In main rulebook you have auto 4, auto 6 and so on. Is every GM supposed to invent their own auto X values for B5 weapons? Oh yeah. Auto 8 PPG sounds like great idea.

Auto 4 is probably a safe bet, generally speaking. Maybe 6 for those Centauri guns the imperial guards used to wax Morden's shadow buddies.

the problem is that in MGT, Auto isn't a yes/no stat, it should be a number indicating how many shots they can fire per action. It's another holdover from D20 B5.

Precicely.

Auto 4 would be safe bet for PPG but whatabout the rifle version? Or the D'Va'Tak which is noted for high rate of fire. Auto 6? Auto 8?

Another issue. Is effect of attack roll added to space ship damage? Rules don't say so(atleast haven't found anywhere mention of it) but if not how on earth are fighters supposed to scratch each other? Fighters seems to carry out lots of d6 damage weapons with starfury having armour 6...Ie impossible to damage...IMO bit wrong approach. In show if you got hit it _hurt_. Methinks we'll halve the armour values on ship armour per ton.

Since a W&G EF-10 PPG gets 6 rounds from a cap, I treat it as Auto 2. This way in full auto it fires off the full cap (3xAuto rounds).

I give the Auricon EF-7 an auto of 3, so it can be used once in auto fire (3xAuto=9 rounds fired) with three shots left for either a single burst or three single shots. It doesn't come out even, but it seems reasonable to make it more powerful in play than the EF-10. An auto of 2 may be more appropriate.

I give the PPG rifle an auto of 4. The Centauri rifle I give an auto of 5, making it a fair bit more fearsome, and the number of rounds in a magazine comes out even this way, as in the PPG rifle and the W&G. The D'Va'Tak I give an 8, for the same reason (ammo) and because of its fearsome description. These ratings all "feel" high, though. 3, 4, and 6 feel better, but the ammo comes out wonky.

I'd be interested in learning the real numbers. I'm only guessing that there was intended to be a link between the ammo quantity and the Auto rating's effects on ammo usage.

Then comes the obvious issue about WHY would anybody use full auto? Same number of shots against opponent but need to reload it.

Though cap issue is there though. Maybe auto is just a typo and it should be no.

Problem with this. Can there even BE auto value which isn't dividable by 2? Afterall you are supposed to pair the results up and you can't pair them all here. And again what's the point here since you would only get one shot off anyway then.

I think those are typos and should be just no. That's how I'll be treating them anyway. Too small caps for them to make sense as auto anyway.
