I clearly have to vote for the expanded Gamebook rules.
In my opinion this version would appeal to two important roleplayer groups:

1) The Newbies. As mentioned earlier in this thread, an expanded version of the gamebook rules would make it easier for readers of the books to switch to real roleplaying. Another factor is that the market totally lacks a real Newbie-system right now.

2) The roleplaying veterans. I have noticed that most roleplayers move from rules-heavy systems to rules-lite systems when they get older because the ROLEplaying becomes more and more important to them. This game is about the ROLE not about the ROLL. So an easy to handle system would really appeal to them.

So it's possible to get the Newbies AND the old hardcore fanbase? Right! So just go for it!

agree to the pro gamebook stance above.

...AND I'd be really interested in seeing how they'd do it :) We all know d20, we all know Mongoose was able to play on the fortes of that system in Conan (which is the only d20 system I play :P ), it would be nice to see something different.

Vain hopes it appears, but maybe they'll include conversion rules :)

BTW: what I find really frightening/creepy is how pple seem to mix up the d20 system as in OGL and using a d20 for action resolution. They are NOT synonimous. I mean, I was raised on d20 based BRP game...

EDIT: Err.. now I'm confused: is the new edition supposed to be based on the gamebooks or d20?

Would that be the d20 system or d20 dice ?

Ok, well maybe I was stating the obvious  but you DO get pple that confuse the two

I have to say that I agree 100% with this.
D20 is clearly a "male-teenage-power-addicting" system... Addictive mainly because of the level system who is as absurd as non reallistic.

Of course, you can be an "old" gamer and:
1) still like some "teenage-kind-of-play" some times... or
2) like to play with the D20 rules BUT put the emphasis on the ROLE.

:)

This is the direction we're going for the French version: two sets of rules (an expanded gamebook-like and a d20).
