For good or for bad, it seems there are lots of independant threads about how fleet x is too powerful, then one about fleet y being too weak etc. So lets lump it together and vote on the issue shall we...

yup, just rememebered to vote myself. I go for the old ones myself, I think the Vorlons more than the Shadows, purely down to maneuvreability. I know I would rather face the Vorlons than the Minbari or Centauri, which shouldn't be the case.

I voted Centauri, mostly because I want to see the poll. And because it seemed to be the obligatory 'joke' option.

Attually, I thought the vorlons were pretty good. well until I realised they realy don't any tricks up thier sleeve. oh and you cant concentrate firepower.

Seriously they have nothing even remotely interesting to them, balance aside they just don't DO anything execept: Close and lose, hyperpace, and still lose

to put it in perspective, average damage is no better than any other fleet, armour is decidedly worse and even with reactive armour they just keel over. In the fluff they supposedly just run around blasting with ignoring lesser races firepower.

I simply dont think the damage rules are right for them.

as for the weapons, well thier a little hit and miss, but a vorlon heavy crusier has a total of 10 attack dice, with no posiblitity of re-rolls

a warlock has more firepower in every case, and range as well, is faster, tougher (armor 6 and 70 vs 100 at 5, even with reactive armour its still a dam sight softer) it may not have as many triple and precise weapons but
I know which one I could rely on.
At least shadow ships have speed.

for reference, vorlons soak damage vs normal ship badly example

A random 6 dice super ap attack will deal a armour 6 ship an average of around 3 damage, a vorlon ship (armour 5) will take 7 damage, most hull 6 normal ships have around 70 hits, where as a vorlon ship has 100.
thats a high price to pay for crit effect immunity. typically a vorlon ship taking a crit takes around 9-10 damage, a normal ship can take anything from a crew to big dice rolls.
Basically vorlons (and even worse shadows) consistantly take high amounts of damage, and they simply dont have enough hits to soak it.

anyway, sorry rant over

I voted for the Vorlon's and Shadows, but I would love to see the Pak'Mara again, even maybe 4 or 5 ships would be enough.

I have to say EA, though I agree the Vorlons are in desperate need of help. As one of the "big four", Narn, EA, Centauri, & Minbari, I just think EA needs to be addressed first.

i agree with freak

vorlone is probebly the flett that needs the most work but EA needs attanding to as well and they shud probebly get fixed first since they are a typical n00b fleet and a lot off peeps play em

had to vote minbari. at the moment I'm ofthe opinion they're the worst offenders. I still think there are other races with issues, shadows are a glaring big one, but I think the bone heads need a bit of slack taken in first.

atm i would say that EA are fine, to get them just right you need to take a lot of risks as a player and escorts are your friend, the problem with a lot of EA players is they like too many big ships e.g. Warlocks, Omegas and so dont have enough points left for escorts and so lose badly with initiative sinks
Minbari, ok they are a little too powerful and some ships (Veshatan) need to lose a little Damage and Crew but mostly its just bad luck or a damn good opponent
Centauri, they are definately fine, they have a lot of advantages but are also weighed back by disadvantages
Narns, ok they have a lot of Boresights but have some good non-boresight weapons (G'Lan) and go for some initiative sinks instead pick up a few Sho'Kovs instead
League, they are fine as they are, but maybe its a bit harsh on the Abbai
ISA, they are definately fine now, 3+ dodge just rules
Shadows/Vorlons, hmm see the "Shadows-Ideas to improve their balance in the game" thread for my answer on that one", they are definately the most broken

well fighters cant be too powerful (just compare size of Fighters to Ships)
Yeah, but at this point they play little actual roll in a game except for looking cool while dogfighting each other...Hmm...maybe you could use them to keep another ship from moving since you're not supposed to move through other bases...Besides all one has to do is carry a nuke to take out a cap ship...

yes but that would require logical thinking :p :D :p

well fighters are useful agaisnt ships with an unprotected arc, e.g a lot of skirmish or Patrol level ships+all Drazi, so if fighters became more powerful these ships would get totally raped

But fighters are the only option the Minbari, Vorlons and Shados have to choose from at Patrol level....

And now you find out why they only work well at the higher Priority levels. At least in the Minbari's case (I have not played the Ancients yet).

EA. While I was tempted to say 1st ones, The Ea fleet (in my opinion) has too many limiting fastors to be a "power" fleet/race. Now, I understand that Earth is the "new kid on the block", but when you take 5 battle points and get messed up so bad that all your ships are gone at the end of round 3 against Minbari or Centauri and you did only minor damage...something is wrong! Interceptors are too limiting. Good but totally ineffecting against beam, turns totally suck for ships. Don't get me wrong, I love EA, but when you can't win at all...why play them. Loosing is good for ones character, but only to a point. Then it just gets annoying. but hey, there is my 2 cents worth.

Same for the ISA.

I have not played enough fleets to vote, but I will say that the ISA are much less nerfed by E-mines with the SFOS changes inplace, and as Pauly_D said, 3+ dodge rules.
