Vehicle Handbook Preview

The next Traveller rulebook is due very soon now - the Vehicle Handbook does for vehicles what High Guard did for ships, allowing you to build just about any design you can think of, modify existing vehicles, and comes complete with a veritable catalogue of vehicles ready to pop up in your campaigns.

We have put together a little step-by-step guide on how to create vehicles with the super easy system included in the Vehicle Handbook, having unleashed a set of players upon the design. You can grab the preview here: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/vhbpreview.pdf

* drool *

I cannot wait! But I guess I have to. Are you able to estimate a release date? I'm really hoping it'll be out in time for my birthday on the 16th…happy birthday me! I hope.

I'm just guessing here, but I suspect you had quite fun writing that preview? :)

I hope that chapter appears in the book, it's a perfect tutorial - showing how easy (and FUN) it can be to design a vehicle, the language is kept light, simple and informal, there are clear page references to relevant parts of the book.... Great job, can't wait for the finished product!

Maybe next week - may get bumped by Garden Worlds, and appear week after.

But very soon!

We are still working on the graphics (just a few tweaks) but yes, that chapter is destined for the final book!

Not quite the excitement I'd feel if it were the companion, but still good news.

Well, here is a bit of good news for you. The Companion is currently on schedule for release this year, but has gained so much material that we are seriously looking at the possibility of Traveller Companion 2 in 2018!

What's your PayPal email? Not that I'm going to bribe you to push it to the front of the queue or anything…

I would never do that.

I eager to see the garden worlds so happy either way. Are the garden worlds region specific or designed to be dropped where needed?

Oh goody! I already have so much lined up for this...you should be able to hear the mad cackling all the way over there :D

I'm as excited by the Vehicles Handbook as everyone else. My operators are standing by :) Garden Worlds sounds great too. I really do think these Referee Briefngs should be compiled into a physical book though.

Looks good. A nice, simple system that can be done mid-session without breaking the flow is important.

The first thing they add is a crane, though none of them can quite remember why, other than ‘it might be useful’.
This costs another Cr1000 but, more to the point, consumes another Space, meaning the vehicle no longer has any room for cargo. The Travellers justify this by saying it is only intended for short journeys anyway, and they can carry their provisions and weapons on their laps as they drive.

Or, you know, drive at 200mph with something vital and heavy slung off the crane on the back.
Not that I've suddenly got the Rio chase from Fast & Furious in my head, or anything....

This is possibly a very good argument for not passing the Vehicle Handbook to your players

Or to be honest, even the core rulebook. I remember the first time I did (1st edition) character creation and was running through the skill options with one of the players. When you see that manic gleam in a player's eye and they lean forwards to ask "tell me more of this 'man portable artillery' of which you speak" you know there's going to be some serious property damage in the near future.

I was sad to see this passage disappear from the new version of the core rulebook

The PGMP and FGMP are weapons of such unbelievable
destructive potential that they are never deployed without due
care and forethought – except by player characters.

that is for sure. to this day no ref or GM will let me anywhere near a heavy weapon, or armed vehicle...and if they do the other players start to worry. If the situation is so bad someone lets me have a plasma gun......its bad. If I get my hands on a "Gun Buggy" then they just start planning their next characters.....odds are nothing within a kilometer of my character is going to survive.

Aiming for Friday :)

Everything is in and accounted for, we are just adding 3 days of awesome to the mix!

Meanwhile, Amy has already started laying out the new Traveller Starter Set...
