Traveller Release Schedule 2025

I know this very well.

Speech therapists have created unauthorized extensions to IPA for transcribing various types of speech disfluencies. Something similar could be done for most aliens. (For Hivers, you're on your own.)
Only for aliens that only use verbal speech within human hearing range. If they use smell, sight, touch, or sounds that Our outside of our hearing range, we are out of luck without an awesome universal translator.

Even if one's mouth and ears can handle the different sounds, it doesn't mean their mind will easily distinguish between different phonemes. American English has vowel sounds that Castilian Spanish does not. Conversely, Americans have a Dickens of a time distinguishing between long and short vowels in Japanese. And that doesn't even approach the whistle or click languages.

All that aside, I'm one of those players who makes sure to sound out every (humanly pronounceable) word that appears in my game. It lets me make puns no one else gets.

I never had a problem. Now, /nr/ always sounded like /nd/ for me, but I never encountered a minimal pair. It may be that the lexicon avoids the issue.

If a machine translator is in play, the audible range shouldn't be a major hurdle as long as the need is recognized and built in. Simply listening to subsonic speech and presenting it is no harder than doing so for usual speech. Likewise, parsing gestures or other visual cues isn't too tricky. Possibly easier than untangling English grammar.

You might not even need a special machine for the super- or subsonic audio. My phone camera can see outside the visible spectrum. Not even sure that's a design feature or just that the CCDs come from the same production line as ones made for scientific instruments. Or possibly that making them to be limited to visible light is more expensive than just speccing them so that they *at least* cover that wavelength range.

CCDs are CCDs. Cameras made for ordinary use should have an IR filter (I attempted to order a DSLR model specially made without that filter just days after the manufacturer discontinued them, which is one reason I don't do astrophotography (there are many others)).

Another author has done a lot with Spica Sector, and I'd hate to see their work get invalidated in one go. But Hinterworlds-Leonidae would be thought....

I think my vote is for Gvurrdon and Ziafrplians getting updated.
Hinterworlds and Old Expanses has been written. You'd have to ask Mr. Sprange about when it may be turned into a sector book though.

I think my vote is for Gvurrdon and Ziafrplians getting updated.

Milieu 0. You have a growing empire, huge frontier areas, massive options for political games, exploration games, colonization games, mercenary games, trading games, etc.

Everything I have heard people on here wanting from 1105 already exists in Milieu 0. So, a rewrite and rerelease of Milieu 0 would be amazing. Less TL12 through TL-15 and more TLs 5-12. Which is something I hear people on here say that they want. -30 to around the 120s would be a great setting for all types of campaigns. Droyne are unknown. Aslan are basically unknown. Hivers are unknown, K'kree are a rumor. Ancients in this time period are thought to be a branch of Humans. Psionics are not banned.

Etc...

Update Milieu 0 to MgT2 rules. Remove things that have been retconned. Smooth over stories that no longer fit with the MgT2 rules. Redesign all ships and other equipment to fit current rules. (or future rules in the case of the Vehicle Handbook)

Player Agency in Milieu 0 is far higher than in 1105. PCs can be a major part of the expansion or formation of the Third Imperium from the Sylean Federation, whereas in 1105 material, affecting the entire Imperium is basically impossible for a small group of PCs. In My games, We never deal with things that large in scope in 1105. In Milieu 0 rising or falling in social status is much easier than in 1105, which benefits the PCs more. Also, Meson Weapons, but no Meson Screens. Nuclear Dampers are brand new technology at TL-12. No sensors above Military Grade.

Etc...

👆

And maybe some adventures where the Travellers are a) Zhodani and b) not involved in the 5FW...

If you want to do Milieu 0, you could extend it so that it covers all technological level twelve developed settings, from the Second Imperium, the Long Night, and the beginning of the Third.
