Traveller Release Schedule 2025

Soi got a question: Vehicle Handbook Update 2025. It's listed as completely rewritten--will it be compatible with robots for the inclusoin of robot brains and such?
It’s by the same author and one of Geri’s stated goals was to bring Vehicle into compatibility of both High Guard and Robots

Re: 2300 AD: there doesn’t seem to be a lot of excitement for this line at the present.. How about books on the French or Chinese Arms? A line of alien sourcebooks (start with the Ebers)? An update of the Nyotekundu setting guide and adventure?

Yeah, would much rather see 'troubleshooter' and exploration adventures. Personally couldn't give a toss about the Kafer war. Just like the Fifth Frontier War nonsense in Traveller. Pages and pages of 'fleet deployment' bore me to tears.

I have said it before but the things that interest me the most are:
the pentapods
the provolutionist movement which gives rise to
transhumanism (which is why I actually liked it when 2300AD began exploring cyberpunk themes, if only they had dropped the punk and just considered the ramifications of human augmentation...)
the other alien races
eber, sung, ylii, xiang, klaxun (including the thought to be extinct little guys and meducae)

I think what really stalled the line is the fact that they been promising the Kafar war set since late 2022 and there’s really been very little movement by the author. Meanwhile the rest of the line has been in limbo. If I remember right there were 3 or 4 books that were supposedly being worked that vanished.

Truthfully while the Kafar war is probably something that a lot of players are interested in from what’s been said it’s not going to be anything like FFW is.

I really think the line needs a soft reboot, like its own core rulebook.

We definitely don't need more rules, just more sourcebooks and adventures. I've been running scenarios successfully from all the different editions with just some minor changes.

Part of the problem is how badly the current rule set is written, it’s full of mistakes and counter-dictions. What we need is a complete rule set that has better clarity and consistency. One of the major problems is there are often cases where you can’t find the rule for something because they are either in the wrong place or spread though 3 or 4 different books. A up dated 2300 CRB that doesn’t refer to the regular Traveller CRB would solve this major issue plus give a single price point, as it is now just to get the core rule set you have to buy the 2300 box set (100.00$) and the Traveller CRB (60.00$) that’s well over double the cost to get the core game for just Traveller. On top of that most of the supplementary book you have to also double up, you need the vehicle handbook & Vehicles of the Frontier for example. Also every time you have to use one of these core supplements to support a 2300 book the TLs become murky.

No we don’t need more rules we need the current rules to be fixed and redesigned to either stand alone or to more seamlessly integrate with the supporting Traveller Rulebook. Until that’s done it doesn’t matter how many source books or adventures they put out the line will still be on life support.

I think a new 2300 CRB is exactly what is needed one that doesn’t Require the Traveller CRB, than things like Vehicles of the Frontier need to be rewritten to either stand alone or actually done with the core Traveller book in mind. You can easily see the core Traveller book is not actually considered when many of the 2300 corresponding book is written though the core Traveller book is definitely required.

Players these days don’t want ambiguity in there games while you can’t eliminate it you can vastly limit it. As it is now 2300 is confusing and ambiguous in the extreme.

Nah, the rules are fine (except the ship design rules). Not what they should be concentrating on.

In this my friend you’re wrong. Players don’t want to have to look through 3-4 books to create a character interpreting the rules changes or requesting rulings from the GM while doing so. They also don’t want to pay 160.00$ to get the equivalent of a 60.00 to 80.00 CRB for Traveller or other RPGs. The rules are confusing and counterproductive. When was the last time you handed the players the books so they could create their own characters?

The problem is a game does not survive without new blood and the 2300 fan base is aging out. Most of the fans are 40+ with very few new players coming in, on top of that the current rule set actually discourages new players from getting into the game. From the high entry price point to the ambiguity of the rules the current CB set only further discourages new players. If this doesn’t change than after the flop that invasion is threatening to be mongoose will effectively abandon the line, no new books, no new print runs, nothing because it’s not profitable.

I supply all the necessary books to my players as PDF's so it's a non-issue.
Okay that’s you doing illegal activities what about the new player who want his own books? What about players who GM doesn’t want to commit felonies? What about that random guy who just heard about the game and doesn’t have anyone around to do this for him so he wants to buy the books until he see the price or he buys the core books and walks away because of the way they are written and tells everyone else that the game is not worth it.

No new players no game that just the facts of the matter

Maybe he buys a copy of the pdf for each player?

I agree that making a copy of a pdf you have bought and now own to gift to someone else is illegal (unless you delete it from your library but the law is woolly on that one). If you clone your pdf that is illegal as far as I remember.

Yes you can make back up copies, but you can not gift a back up copy, as that is still cloning and theft.

Could be specifically typecasted.

The rules are fine in all the groups I've been involved with. Without specific examples, its hard to comment any further.

And with the cost of the books, the reality is that Mongoose is a business that has it's own staff and overheads. In today's volatile world having a company that runs it's own business possibly means stability at a slightly higher cost. Personally, I can afford it and again, that is all I can really say about that.

Please note that release dates listed here are expected PDF releases and pre-order dates - printed editions will likely appear 3-4 months later. Though we will be updating this particular post rather than appending more, you are welcome to make comments and ask questions in this thread!

July

Invasion: It is finally here! A full campaign for 2300AD, Invasion starts your Travellers as hardworking colonists and farmers, going about their business as they build a new life. This campaign is the perfect introduction to the universe of 2300AD and if you have been looking to dip your toe, Invasion might be just the place to start!

August

Brushfires sees a crew of independent Travellers follow a simple job straight into the heart of an erupting warzone, where they will see great heroics and villainous opportunists as they try to thread their way through the fighting.

November
Vehicle Handbook Update 2025:
With both vehicle rules and the construction system re-written from the ground up, the Vehicle Handbook Update 2025 is not just a graphical update but a complete replacement for the core vehicle rules for Traveller. Expect a mighty tome from fan-favourite Geir Lanesskog comprising a multitude of new options, from humble push bikes and horse-drawn wagons, to aerospace interceptors, land ships and floating cities!

In the works and to be slotted into the schedule in the not too distant future:

Dark Conspiracy: The Unseen War
The Aslan Hierate
Legend of the Sky Raiders
Pioneer
Singularity
2300AD: Building the Frontier
FFW: Consular Envoy
FFW: The Lanth Campaign
The Ine Givar

As noted before, everything is subject to change and rescheduling, but all the titles above have either already been written and are undergoing layout, or are in some stage of writing!
Yay for November!
