Tournament scoring of aux craft...

Destroyed enemy fighters should be scored as follows:

  • 1 VP per destroyed flight regardless of origin

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • 1 VP per seperately purchased destroyed wing (does not include craft launched from ships)

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • VPs awarded for destroying a ship of the same PL as the aux craft wing (does not include craft launc

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    0
Ideally I suppose that would be true, but that leaves the option open to leave one flight at the corner of the board so the enemy can't get credit for the whole wing. (obviously won't work for Nials, but you get the idea.)
Getting credit for the "added" wings first is a compromise, to be sure.

I would prefer that too. I don't mind being a little competitive in friendly games but if you do it this way if stops pleyers from taking advantage and makes book keeping easy also.

OK folks, points taken and I'll be sure that the whole area of Tournament play gets a thorough going over if possible in the 2nd ed. rules - it's a pet area of mine and I'd like to see something standard laid down as a basis for future play. VPs are a central part of that and I don't mind putting in some testing on the issue :)

Hey Thanks Triggy!

Much Appreciated from down here in Oz - (Did I mention we won the Ashes 5-0 :D )

Off topic - I played against Minbari for the first time today

Neroon did so much damage to my fleet as did a Tinashi(?) Damm Precise Beamy Death and Stealth :D

Tinashi good. Neroon not good when you consider the cost ;) Remember that Neroon COULD have been a Sharlin and 2 Tinashis for the cost. And trust me, that would hurt ALOT more (14 AD of Neutron lasers to the face hurts to say nothing of the 24 AD of forward fusion beams......)

Anyway back on topic, I VP should simply be awared for eveything based on cost but to be honest the easiest way of handling it is to simply do 1 VP for every fighter destroyed. The problem here is it screws over already weak carriers. I do actually ratehr like the idea of scrapping independant wings and just giving every race a few more carrier options.

Have to say I like the idea of scrapping VP for fighters completely, whether you just do that or remove the option of buying independent wings and add more "carrier" type ships would both be interesting.

I definitely agree that you shouldn't conceed victory points for a fighter wing when you're going to conceed even more victory points when you lose the carrier - that's just unfairly victimising ships with launch bays instead of guns.

However, it's also pretty clear that someone shouldn't be able to hide one flight and concede no victory poitns because you can't wipe out the wing. (a shadow fighter flight from each wing not jumping in, for example. Not sure If that's a possibility, but it's a good illustration, anyway)

If you wipe out a full wing of fighters you should get some credit. I think there should be more carriers as well, but in small patrols I see nothing wrong with the idea of a patrol boat with a couple of flights of fighters as escort. The problem is how to persuade people to buy a carrier as the points value goes up....

I really like the 'independant wings die first' approach; it's simple, you can't cheat it, and once you're at a priority level where you have a substatial number of capital ships at your disposal, it encourages you to field a carrier (something you don't often see in most races) rather than umpteen fighter wings.

The rules in SFoS do say:
For every wing or part thereof of auxiliary craft destoyed that was bought for a fleet separately from anay carrier, VP's are awarded as for destroying a ship of the same PL as the auxiliary craft wing.

So hiding a single fighter won't work.

Except for Nials and WSC-L, etc. that only come one to a wing

LBH
They can hide their purchased Nial and Whitestar fighter flights all they want. I promise to not chase after them until after I blow up their other ships if they want to keep them out of the game that way. I won't even call it cheesy to try and hide VPs from me that way.

Yeah, but that was a little bit harsh. Giving up 5 VP for destroying 1 flight of fighters regardless of the size of the wing didn't make much sense.

May not make much sense (so hopefully will be changed in future) but those are the rules as they stand at the moment.
