FAQ for Earth / Centauri Campaign weeked - collated Q+A

To be fair, £20 is fine. As noted, it is a two day event in a sports hall. Hosting a GW event in a GW hall is always going to be cheap. Booking out a church hall for a club tournament cost us not far shy (I think it ended up being a tenner each for quite a small event)

Compare to buying a couple of cinema tickets over a weekend.

One minor issue, quoted from the advert page:

When booking, we will need...the fleet you would most like to use, plus alternatives - spaces are going to be limited on each team, as well as among the Fleets for Hire, so please list some choices for us!

At which point will we know what fleet we're playing? This is obviously rather an issue - I've got enough counters for a 'backup' fleet not to be too bad, but aquiring spare miniatures (especially since needing them will probably mean switching 'race') is not a possibility for most people.

Equally, quite a lot of ships don't exist in counter form. I'm guessing that if unofficial models are disallowed, unofficial counters would be too?

Unless there's a release next month I've missed (in which case put me down for two sets on pre-order), though, that means Drakh, Dilgar and anything post-armageddon is not possible with counters.

Must get the place booked. How many is 'limited', by the way?

If anyone tries playing silly buggers about me using an unofficial Marathon counter, I can always take the conversion approach.
(Hint: Take a Hyperion counter, and "convert" it by sticking an image of a Marathon over it.)

Actually, Matt, I organised the annual tournament for the Golden Throne forum at Warhammer World in summer, and GW didn't charge us anything for the venue. I can only assume that's what you meant.

No. . . You can assume I meant that a campaign or tournament weekend costs a lot more than £20. . .
I can attest to this, looking at the costs for the WPS events that have been held there in the past.

GW are enthusiastic to have small (fewer than 30 people) events and won't charge if the hall is available but a large event that can potentially make money will cost GW more to clean, heat, maintain (and the initial build costs) so they will get their money back just the same as most other companies.

i can bring you a Marathon to use if you want.

there are lots of unofficial counters in the vassal mod. also some other sheets of unofficial counters are available in player resources.

Thanks for the offer, but it would probably look out of place against the rest of the fleet being counters. I do already have 2 Marathons (1 of which is even built ), but I can still foresee my fleet being bare metal by the time Jan swings around.

WILL there be any new releases at the event?

There will likely be some goodies available there before they go on general release. And, cross fingers, there may be some _awesome_ models previewed from another range.

If nothing else, we should be able to demonstrate our new stock system that keeps at least 99% of all ships available at any one time :)

Will there be non ACTA stuff for sale?

If not, could people order non aCTA stuff on the Saturday, one of the Mongoose monkeys picks it up from the fofice and we can buy it on the Sunday???

Of course.

Can someone get matts attention for this question - If we want to use a drakh mothership as a flagship, and the model isn't available, how can we get around this? Figure rep? Is a counter available?

For centauri, it just seems that taking a drakh mothership is the most sensible option, at least to me anyway. Although the centauri purist in me does scream ADIRA inside my head.

Centauri Admiral, I got the old style Drakh Mothership just before Christmas.

I can find out where I got it for you the delivery was very good (within 2 days of order). The place was in Cornwall / Devon way.

Just waiting for the Mongoose chappies to deliver my ordered Carrier and Cruiser.

38. Fighters purchased separately will not be replenished automatically - they must be replaced in the same way as ships (with money!).

39. Hopefully this won't crop up too often. The basic rule would be a conceded game must be reasonable and not done for gain on the part of the concedee - in a campaign of this nature, there are all sorts of tricks that can be pulled that can gain an overall advantage in the campaign, but provide a bad game for the opponent. We will be watching for this closely!

In a nutshell, provide a good game for your opponent, and you can concede. If you are trying to 'pul' something, the judges will be hovering over your table!

Pyrrhic victories are part of war. . .

40. No to the RR points - this may cause some fleets to naturally take Refits rather than Other Duties but, for the purposes of the weekend, I think we are okay with that.

Diverting Raids can only be applied to your next opponent. Remember, the point is to give everyone a set of good games, so we won't be allowing stunts that basically take a game away from someone. Fleets for Hire, we will be watching you on this score as well! Taking bribes from the other side is certainly permissable (though remember our warning in the Campaign Pack!) but if it means cheating someone out of a decent game, there wil be a ruling against you.

I realise this may sound as if things will be a little chaotic - bear in mind that this is _not_ a tournament, and a very different ethos will be at work.

No to the re-rolls. Way too much interpretation needed as to what constitues 'useless'. However, if you do get such a result, come and see a judge. You never know what might happen. . .

I think he meant (and if not I'd like to know) if you purchase a wing of 4 fighters as a Patrol point and say 3 of them are destroyed do they get replenished in the same way as a ship gets their crew, damage and fighters back?

thanks

41 Other duties - Can you gain new ships through these - Ie Assistance Rendered, Compatible Goals, Haven Escort etc? Are Vorlon Directives, Red Hunts, Whispers from the Shadows, Warmongering, allowed?

42. Should we be bringing mroe than the 5 battle points if some sceanrios are more than that - Planetary assault - also we will need ship sheets for them.

thanks

I will have to say no to this.

41. If you have the minietures/counters, I don't see why not. Sounds like fun!

42. No. You will be fighting Planetary Assault with 5 points each (no defences for the defender - well, not 'official' ones anyway :)).
