The "Its Arrived!" Thread

well ff tend to take ages with every game they make so just be lucky that gw sold the rights to anyone is what i say mate :) though they shoulda givent it to green ronin imo since they did such a good job with whfrpg an all.

as for traveller campaigns im goin for something thats a mix of mass effect and firefly with abit of the good stuff from some old scifi setting book i found for alternity.

So are you gonna run a game in the Manchester area? ;) My single player lives in Brighton!

(and ME crossed with Firefly does sound intriguing...)

Got mine this morning from leisure games. Very fine stuff, congatulations guys.

Now when will the "Angels Share" campaign be out :P .

Talking of which - do Mongoose have any plans for Adventures?

Cheers.

The binding and construction are good however the paper used within the book appears to be the cheapest and lightest paper Mongoose could find. Its the sort of cheap paper you would find in office printers. the layout is so-so with some rather badly thought out artwork bleeds.

BUT I'm still going to pick up a copy beause I like the game and bad layout or crappy paper does not stop me enjoying a game... :P

well i dnt actually live in themanchester area im based outta buxton which is about 40 or so miles and an hour by train away, but the guy who runs fanboy3 said theres a couple games starting up there soon so if u keep an eye out on there gaming boards in store im sure you'll find a game eventually, my firefly/mass effect hybrid game is still a fair way away from being runable atm.

Interesting, I did not think the paper was that bad at all. Now I remember a "Cyberpunk" d20 game that came out on paper that reminded me of the cheep catalogs that my wife gets. Now that was cheep paper and even caused me not to buy it for that very reason.

Now had the paper had a grey cast to it or had chips of material still in it then I might have thought of it as cheep.

Oh well, for the most part I do agree with the rest of your post. :D

I picked up my copy this morning at EndGame (Oakland, CA).

I'll be honest - I'm not a big fan of Mongoose. Victory at Sea is pretty much the only game they've done that I really enjoyed. I was utterly disappointed in Lankhmar, and similar on the few other ventures.

That being the case, I didn't expect much of their Traveller edition. And given I've been a fan of Traveller since the LBBs, I wasn't expecting to pick up this version.

I was impressed enough with a skim that I bought it, and after reading it a good bit earlier today, I'm actually very pleased with book. :)

Interestingly enough, I was at EndGame to run a demo game of Thousand Suns (very Traveller-esque) and used the classic Traveller adventure "Shadows".

I'll be looking to run a follow-up using the Mongoose Traveller rules in a month or so.

SO, again, from someone who's distinctly not a Mongoose fan / fanatic: good show, Mongoose!

In a word - yes!

We have already started working on Beltstrike - our first campaign for Traveller. Also expect to see one-off adventures in our downloadable magazine, Signs & Portents.

Fantastic!
Again, thanks very much for an excellent job - just what many have long wished for - a fabulous, respectful update of CT with some great new ideas. looking forward to new books - will buy them all. :D

I am looking forward to the Beltstrike.

Also thanks for adding some one off adventures in the magazine. Those are useful to add into existing games.

My co-playtester made a stop at our LGS and true to it's inept status as a gaming store, the guys behind the counter only ordered 2 copies for the release...when my buddy asked why they would do that the answer was...
"Well you know, there hasn't been a big demand for Traveller books over the years, so we didn't think people would buy the game...however you're probably the 20th person that's come in over the past 2 days...so do you want us to order you a copy?"

GAH! I wish I had the money to open a gaming store...well and that there was a good market for one in my area...Thank god for the internet...my copy should be on my desk in the next day or so...my wait is finally on it's last legs.

Its here! It made it!

Havent had the chance to look it over yet, but so far, most of it looks good. The line drawings that seem to have passed for art in the character section are, well, highly underwhelming.... but I did like what I saw of the starship art.

I think there are a few folks on the forum who have said they felt the art in the career section was not as good.

I agree that the ship art, for the most part, is nice.

YAY!
Mine just arrived here at work...The artwork to me isn't important...it's nice filler, but not a deal breaker at all. I agree that the star ship stuff is nice though.
All in All, great work Mongoose!

Now I can stop bitching that I don't have a copy :P

I just picked up a copy. Very good, although I prefer the original GDW iteration. On the other hand, this version has an actual character generation option for psionicists which looks like it's actually usable.

Overall, it's solid work, and it's definetly Traveller. Thank you. Now, the only problem is that it cost $40 U.S., but I suspect that Mongoose can't really do anything about that (unless they want to give me money  ).

However, I was hoping that I might be credited as a playtester; I had given some feedback. But I wasn't in the book - huh?

Two copies arrived on my doorstep this morning ... one postmarked 30/4 (my original preorder with Spinward Marches) and the other 2/5 (ordered when it became obvious that SM would not come out in May, and might delay the shipping of the Core Rules ... just in case) ...

I can say I am less than impressed with Australia Post ... the 30/4 should have been delivered yesterday, but, because they use contractors to deliver parcels, not the postie, I've noticed that we almost never (certainly not for many years) get parcel deliveries on Monday ... only Tuesday-Friday. This may be because our contractor delivers them around 6:30 or so in the morning, but it isn't impressive when it means no deliveries on Monday *at all*.

Still, two copies, at least, have been welcomed warmly into Oz!

(A quick scan ... I agree, the character art is ... not quite awful, but I can live with that ... maybe I will have some errata by tonight ;-)

Agreed in all things stated, especially the paper, the printouts I made on my laser printer from the playtest document are of a greater overall quality.

This is also definitely the wrong day of the week for me to be receiving a 188-page total distraction from my work.

I got mine on Thursday last week, 5/1/08. Had fun rolling up a merchant/scout character who quit character generation at age 50, managed to roll really good on his aging rolls. For fun and to pay off his ship, I gave him a 200 year old Far Trader. I wound up with a computer that was upgraded twice, so well maintained that maintenance costs are 90% less than normal, and so many %@^@$ smuggling compartments, that he is still finding the dang things (The customs inspector asks " Why are there 3 smuggling hidden compartments on the bridge, and each of them under your seats?", the reply "Dangit three more of them? Just how many more of these blasted things are there?") and to make it really funny, the ship is a famous and respected trader (Everyone must not really know this ship do they?). One of his connections is to a strange alien from a newly discovered race that he met in his days as an Imperial Scout. Another is his daughter, a holdover from a life event which was a romantic encounter in his first term as Merchant in the Merchant Marines. The third is an Imperial agent from another term as a scout where he handled a <<Classified by Imperial Intelligence - Level Ultra Ultra Secret - by Order of the Emperor>>.
