The Brivoki

Actually, if you read my opening statement, I do think that the differences are not of much concern. But several players have complained. please remember to read a whole topic and not just pick out bits for a skewed opinion ;-)

I said it's very small difference (like hiff did too), I didn't say it doesn't need fixing ;)
Besides if the changes are as rumoured (Abbai get a shield boosting SA whereas Brakiri get... umm nothing that helps the Brivoki) then it will be much more imbalanced the other way in P&P!

it was external on the Milani, I believe the Brivoki is large enough to take 4 of them internally.

Well it could but it would be cool to have a squadron of interceptors and assualt ships/missiles on hardpoints :)

Here's the issue with the abbai getting a shield boost SA - CBD and the general need to use maneuver SAs. Now they will have a choice to boost shields more in some way, at the expense of maneuver (desperately needed on the larger ships) or better defense vs multiple attackers.

By that I mean CBD will likely stop a lot more damage than any shield boost I can think of off the top of my head, unless shield are getting a dodge like roll x+ to negate damage. So the abbai will be trading one capability for another... a poor fix as the abbai ships that need help (Bimith and above really need it, marata doesn't impress me either) desperately need to Come About, APtE most often, and CBD is likely a better defense.

Plus any general shield boost will likely make the Tiraca a beast, as it is already a pretty good ship. Milani is a nice ship, but weak as a kitten compared to the Olympus/Artemis/Vorchan/Demos/Ka'Tan monsters out there, so think a shield boost there would be nice but not overpowering.

What the abbai needed was a way to stop long range fire from being dominating to their larger hulls, and a way to stop smaller ships simply getting to range 10-12 on the sides and eating them for lunch as they can't get around to close the range due to lumbering. I will say again, lumbering was one of the worst introductions in second edition. It works okay on long range sniper ships, but it makes short range brawlers useless.

bimith is being fixed in regards to that. an i would have preferred a general shield regen increase rather than an SA version.

I agree. A boost to shield recharge would have been better as the upcoming new SA as well as a full overhaul of the Abbai ship stats.

There are enough special actions out there by now, more or less balanced (CBT to easy and hard) so IMOL there is no need for more, exept get perhaps back the old "Manouver to shield them".

Well, I can't give a full batrep, it was way way to hot and I ended up with a headache. we played in the conservatory with the sun beating down on my head!

anyhow
as guessed, my opponent used a brivoki, oh my!

Brakiri. Tashkat, takata, 2 Kaliva, Kabrokta 2 Haltona, 1 Brokados, 2 batrado, 1 Halik

Abbai. Brivoki, Juyaca, Lakara, Milani, many bimiths 2 tirace.

as expected the early part of the game was all the Brakiri as they had range, removing the initiative sink Tiracas and Milani so i could line up juicier targets for the Kabrokta. The Kalivas sat way back sniping. by mid game it was a grand mellee, the Bimiths wading in, but being more of an annoyance at first. the first Brivoki salvo hit the Takata, he was getting annoyed at the mines, but it survived, it's second shot scratched a Kabrokta, then his third salvo obliterated the Tashkat, yup one shot, one kill, although the tashkat, Kabrokta 2 haltonas and 2 kalivas (yes it needed ALL of them, had killed the Juyaca. The Lakara had died to a Stunning kabrokta shot the previous round. . . but with a skelly crewed Takata, and a half damaged kabrokta as my main warships i was wondering how to kill the Brivoki, whilst being continually mauled by bimiths (2 crits per salvo, bah!) and then, the kabrokta, and 2 haltonas went down to the brivoki and I was staring defeat in the face. Just to pile on the pressure, my halik then got a facefull of Bimith and died. I was left with my two sniping Kalivas, and a skelly crewed Takata. . against a brivoki and 4 bimiths. . . and then Kaliva A took over 100 damage from a TD beam shot from the brivoki, leaving me at minus 72. . . the remaining kaliva tried to do somehing, anything, but I never got the Brivoki's shield below 18 in the whole game. . . and it was the first time ever i killed a Juyaca!! The Brakiri just don't have enough oomph to deal with a heavy shield fleet, the beams being slow loading after you pop a shield, you are then barely able to scratch them while you reload!! and they recharge! bah!. The Abbai player also laughed at my Tashkat, sure he whimpered when it fired a ten dice beam, but once he realised that it could only do it every other round, and that my secondary armament was very inferior to the juyacas, he just taunted me!

next time, i return to my roots and take the narn for a spin, Mr Brivoki, meet Mr KaBinTak. . . . m'wah hahahahahha, oh, ok the brivoki has 28 points of crit immunity and the kabintak has the defensive systems of a marmoset but it should be fun

Nice report...

I wonder why shielding seems to work so well for some of you. For us once a shield goes down it's essentially never coming above a 1 again. And the Juyaca has locally never survived a fight, or killed her weight in enemies, maybe against Brakiri it would do better.
