So what about the other (less used) ships...

Nevery used any tethys, olympus gunship, assault hyperion, orestes, Command Omega and Hyperion, Explorer.

At least the Olympus Gunship, Assault Hyperion, Orestes, Hyperion and Explorer are worthy choices, even if you don't take them. There are many more ships out there that are pretty poor for their Priority Level and have alternatives in the fleet that fill their role...

Kutai, Tethys, Haven, G'Quonth, G'Tal, Command Hyperion, Command Omega, Drakh Fast Destroyer, White Star Gunship and a couple of others...

Gotta agree with Triggy here. Stuff he mentions are very bad choices.

Especially the G'Quonth it only feels marginally more powerful than a Tertius yet is shifted up a lvl grrrr

Some day Fanheads ill get you. Ahh wait we already did repay with the bombing the homeworld fun.

Really? The Orestes is no good? I mean, what with it's steller speed and great turn rate. It should ALWAYS be able to get it's primary laser cannons on something.

Yeah, I don't understand the Orestes either. I don't understand the Kuati. I don't understand the Haven. I don't understand the G'tal.

But those ships are EASY to know that something is wrong.

What about the Explorer? Yes, it;s slow. Yes it's weapon load out isn't steller... but for a raid ship, I think it could A) divert fire or B) soak up enough that it's hvy pulse cannons are STILL effective.

Anyone actually USE one? Even in a scenario? Anyone wanna MAKE a scenario (I'm looking at you LBH)?

Why would you be looking at me, I've never made an ACTA scenario yet, though I do have a whole slew of them in my head

The Explorer's not a terrible ship, particularly if you want a source of fighters and have time to launch them. Otherwise, ignore the huge damage score (the crew score is far lower) and it's still on OK ship...

Our local Centauri player is using them regularly; and quite succesful too - usually to intercept fire targetedat imoortant ships with special orders; but they do have some use...

It is possible to use the Haven's 3AD twin array and 2AD matter cannon to go after enemy patrol- level initiative sinks; but the results aren't worth the tactical effort you have to put in to get them, usually.
The thing about the Explorer is, it shouldn't be in the fleet list in the first place. It's not a warship, it's a blue ensign job- fleet auxilliary, and should feature only as a special scenario element. At that, it's no worse an actual carrier than the Balvarin- there's a ship that has been not merely nerfed but wrapped in pink taffeta with ribbons tied on.

I read a post somewhere that you don't write FF, but you do have some scenarios to write.

Orestes is a bit naff, though. Bin the beams and replace them with big pulse batteries, rail guns and missile racks, then you're talking...

Sounds like a plan. Now, Earth has varients of everything... why don't they make one of this?

Well, I can't find it. I am going to try my best and make the Vorchan a useful ship (I love the way it looks) but the Haven is beyond me. It is made out of tissue paper...

Yes, I know it is a small ship... but make it a wing of 2 or something, cause singulary they are a waste.

The Orestes used to be a front-line battleship, so you just need to cook up the early version, pre Earth-Minbari War. Back then, EA didn't have lasers, so they'd field a ship with pulse cannons, rail guns and missiles. It'd still be ridiculously slow, but missiles would give it some range and you could load it up with interceptors so it could, maybe, get into range to fire its pulse cannons before it gets shot to pieces.

The Orestes isn't that bad a ship actually, it just suffers from what the Secundus and Primus suffer from - there's a better choice immediately obvious with almost no drawbacks.

How often are you going to get a boresight with those beams, though? One of them being only 15" range, combined with the incredibly slow 4" move means you won't be firing that often. The other beam has a good range but the singlr 45 degree turn is painful for boresighting.

The Orestes is good at one thing - defending an objective! Be that a planet, a station or whatever, when your opponent has to come to your side of the table, it´s not bad to have an Orestes around to welcome him!

Yer and thats why it is a monitor ^^.

But it seriously suffers from the drawback of competing against something simply superior.
