Cosmic Mongoose
so then, back in the day, when ACTA was fresh, and B5 ruled the galaxy, their were numerous talented people (and some a bit less so) who produced ship sheets, counters, 3D ships, and quick reference crit sheets, all so you didn't spend half a game flicking through a rulebook.

What i ask, is anyone going to have a crack this time. Alas, Burger is not playign SF, so his fabled ACTA sheets will not be available. I did ask about doing them, but due to changes in arcs etc, the coding is not correct and I'm not knowledgeable to fix it... but someone, somewhere one day, will pick up the challenge, aye, and bring forth, glossy sheets to help the gamer in his galactic conquest...
so... anyone planning anything :-)

Seconded here. I have done some counters of Federation and Klingon ships in the old ACTA format but don't forget you can get official counter sheets from ADB which will do fine and will contain all of the correct ship types. I'm always interested in crib sheets and the like which speed up game play, however.

Hey Hiff may be worth reading this thread for the most recent discusion:

http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=49431

long and short of it is:

MGP are talking about making official ship sheets but some of us doubt that this will happen given other pressure and priorities... same as the Noble Armada sheets were never done.

ADB want to retain total control of this aspect (as they do for SFB/FC) so amongst other things "errors can be avoided" and really really don't want fan ones made - a reversal of MGP traditional position who seemed to recongise the advantages of having such impressive resources made for them for free.

..........Da Boss, I have emailed Matthew and he does say official ones are planned. I believe the release date is February.................I wouldn't be suggesting that folks hold off on play aids if I didn't know that official ones are forthcoming. I came to the gaming industry via RPG playing and migrated into a strategic wargame with homegrown play aids. I do, really, understand where gamers are coming from on this. Please give both Matthew and SVC time to come to an agreement and remember this is a weekend so time in office might not overlap well.

I would think we may have an official word after the New Year - but to me its highly unlikely there will be any official aids before the first official tournament and it will be left up to people to scrape together whatever they can whilst also being told not to put anything up so people can use them - worst of both worlds really............ Hopefully I am wrong and the ref sheet at least will come out with the faq/errata sheet after Xmas.

I think that is likely if the production of such important resources happens it will be well away from this forum.........shame really.

ahh kay, thanks for the update. May do my own for personal use, and keep top secret :-)

H, you might work up what you can, and let Matt see a copy; he may like it enough to use it (don't know if there would be compensation or what). I think ADB might be willing to have a look-see; who knows if it would save them time or what.

I think all the concern is that some folk will whip up some ship sheets and distribute them, causing confusion when the "official" ones come out. Might affect sales of the "official ones", might not.

I have made a cheat sheet to help with game play. It has the crit chart, and other useful information on it.. If you woudl like it please feel free to send me a PM with your e-mail address so I can e-mail it to you.

Or go here and get them...

Nicely done. I put together a sheet with criticals and weapons charts only right after my first game. Most of the Special Actions info is already on the counters I'm using, rest of it is pretty straightforward if you've a history with ACTA.

Have patients, friend. I'm sure they will get these published as soon as possible. If not Mongoose, then ADB probably will. One advantage ADB has over many small companies is they own heavy-duty printers for Print-On-Demand books. (Okay, so they lease them -- but they HAVE them.) If you don't mind your ship cards in blawk-&-white, I would not be suprised to see them come out of ADB's shop.

Also, if you pop over to the StarFleetGames web site, you'll find TONS of stuff available for-free for SFB, FedCmdr, and F&E. Again, I'm sure they wuill have stuff for ACTA:SF down the road. Steve hasn't been in the gaming business for, what, THIRTY years now by being stupid. If it helps the game (and sales, of course), he will figure out a way to do it. If nothing else, I've seen him "outsource" smaller projects that he can't make happen in-house. Example, the large one-inch fleet counters for F&E. It would have cost too much and not sold enough for him to afford printing them on cardboard, but there was enough call for them he allowed a player to design them for free-download. If it should happen, it will happen. Be patient.

hmm we shall see.

We have a official tournament coming up in February - be nice to have it up and running for that but that seems unlikely.

I just hope it is as good as fans could have made it.

Well, if you think you can do it "right", draft something up and send it in.

I agree that Mongoose needs to get something done before the toury. If I were running the company, I would try to create the ship cards, either in-house or using a player-submitted version, to be a beta draft version and get them printed up in time for the tourny (at no charge to the players using them). Afterwards, I'd collect the cards and get feedback from the players on what needs to be adjusted for the final version prior to publication.

Someone here said they'll never buy something they can create themselves, so perhaps Mongoose can post a generic template for each race/empire that people can download and edit using stats out of the book. As this template wouldn't give away ship stats, it could stay up forever. I can even see them posting real cards with full stats for a FEW ships in the game, along with a quick-set of rules, just to hook new players into buying the full-book versions.

ADB have a quite legitimate worry about the stats being available freely - this is a valid concern for any company (although Mongoose have tolerated ship sheets in the past).

What I would suggest is that blank ship record sheets would be fine (critical tracks probably ok, actual ship stats not) - and allow the individual players to fill in the stats themselves from their own rulebook. This would allow players to have a good, well-laid out sheet for the tournaments but allow ADB the necessary control over the content.

I've already made a blank record sheet with a criticals track, 5 ships per page, for use until the proper ones appear. If anyone who wants to consider putting it up for download wants a look at it just PM me and I'll send on a copy (plus SA markers and a QRF sheet as well if you like) as I don't have the means to host it myself.

Scratch that, you can find my play aids here: http://pdfcast.org/tag/acta-sf

If you've trouble opening the downloaded PDF (some PDF readers appear to think they're corrupted), use the print option when you open it and select "print as PDF" to save a copy on your PC. The "printed" copy will be fine.

One more correction that's needed. Accurate should be Accurate +X. It's not a flat +1 bonus.
