pre-painted miniatures?

Bridgetsdad

Mongoose
I don't know if this has ever been addressed but here goes.

WIth the new version of B5:ACTA coming out will there be prepainted miniatuers avail like those for Battlefield Evolution or the new Starship Troopers game?

I had the worst luck the B5 miniatues and Mongoose NEVER (I MEAN NOT ONCE) ever made good on my purchase - even when I took pictures and mailed them back to Mongoose - nothing (I lost a lot of money on this game).

I do like the BE Miniatures so of if the new version of B5:ACTA came with pre-painted minis - I would pick it up again.

I figured that since the minis for BE and the preview pics I have seen for SST EVO look great - doing ships is not that much of a stretch.

Just curious.

I don't think so.
And thats a definite no for the 2nd Edition.

Would you care to elaborate? What ships caused the problem?
Unfortunately Mongooses customer service can range from Sublime to absolutely dreadful.

I've made two big purchases from a game store and both times had to return some models but the return was done quickly and successfully. They screwed up but they fixed it for me. Maybe the English system is broken.

I don't want pre-painted mini's. We've had this debate before. It's not going to happen and I don't think it would do anything for the game if it did.

Thanks for the information - and I am saddened by it. I refuse to purchase any B5 miniatures becuase I have had awful luck.

I bought miniatures where the wrong minis were in the box.

I bought an EA Warlock that looked melted and was worthless.

I contacted MGP and was instructed by Ted Chang to mail the figs back and I did - no replacement ever came. I sent email after email and all I was told was that they were sent and but no tracking information was provided. Basicaly I lost money on buying the figures then lost money sending them back - and got nothing in return.

THat is the deal - I got ripped off. :(

Sorry to hear that. Thats a total pain. :(

bridgetsdad...wow, that sucks! I'm glad I've never had to go through that. an experience like that one and I'd be tempted not to play the game, ever again! in fact, i'm kind of surprised to see you around the forums... :!:

I think the saddest thing was that I really like the game and still play with the counters/cut-outs.

There is nothing wrong with the counters. I've collected several fleets of minis, and I still end up playing with the counters half the time. Mainly because its hard to find someone else with a fleet of models down here, and I down want to play EA and Centauri all the time.

I would love pre-paints, in Fleet Action scale :)

Personally I love(d) using counters, but recently my playing group has changed and the new players have a few fleet action scale fleets, and whilst there is no problem borrowing fleets I am a little annoyed that they won't play with counters, as counters make it possible to play just about any fleet you want.

There are several advantages of doing pre-painted miniatures.

One: They must necessarily be made of plastic, and thus would be lighter and less prone to breaking off the stems. It would also be easier to cart them around, as you could just chuck 'em in a box and not worry about them breaking or bumping each other or scratching up that paint-job.

Two: Players would not have to worry about painting their fleet. They could just buy a bunch of minis and go.

However, neither one of these reasons are good enough arguements in my mind for having pre-painted plastics.

Counter-Arguement One: We would be sacrificing the ability to customize our fleets through kitbashing and unique paint schemes. Is this not half the fun of playing a miniatures wargame in the first place?

Counter-Argument Two: We already have counters for grab-and-go gaming. The counters have the added avantage of being thin and storable in small plastic baggies. You do not require a huge box or bin to cart them around.

Counter-Arguement Three: Pre-painted minis would compete for precious shelf-space at the retailer's. Since retailers who would carry these pre-painted minis would probably put them alongside existing ACTA product, the game would be competing with itself for shelf space.

Counter arqument for counter arqument: Pre-painted does not mean you can't convert it or even paint over it.

counter counter argument

if you want pre painted plastic minis, starwars is available ;-)

personally, as much as I hate painting, i love the reasuring wweight of metal! I have a nike, it looks cool, but is too light, I just bought 2 marathons and they are satisfyingly heavy!

now that really is saying something! have you even thought about making your white stars yet? only 8 months of this year left. have you made any B5 models, ever?
