are these more 'kiddy' and less graphic and really easy compared to the FF ones?
I wouldn't say they are easier. In fact I'd say they can be very challenging (lots of aotukills). However the world of Magnamund is more gritty than that of Titan. People get hurt and they die. Eating food does not restore health in large ammounts. Magical healing is also less common. That actualy makes you take a more realistic approach to things. Rather than just charging in thinking "it's alright, I've got seventeen stamina left" you'll be thinking "that thing's dangerous and it could hurt me. Those wounds would make me easier to kill later on so I need to be careful here." So risk assesment and resource management come into it a bit.
That being said, whilst the Lone Wolf books are tougher and even a bit more grown up than the Fighting Fantasy series the adventure structure is less like a spider diagram and more like a flow chart. Often on long journeys you'll get a fixed encounter, then one of three random encounters, and then the next fixed encounter. That means you still get to a lot of the main plot points but have some nice adventure stuff around it.
What I mean is that you don't automaticaly fail the whole adventure due to one wrong turn taken early on. Wrong turns later are anoher matter but basicaly the adventure structure is more forgiving whilst the encounter difficulty is actualy higher. Monsters aren't always considerably less skilled and less healthy than you are. In fact it's often quite close to an even match.
I heard that they all follow on from each other..doesnt that make them all a bit samey? I liked all the different varietys and original settings in the FF world.
I would never accuse the Lone Wolf adventures of being a bit "samey". They are set in the same world but rarely in the same parts of it. One of the weaknesses of the Fighting Fantasy series was that it was written by so many different authors that it had some continuity issues (what with different writers having different ideas of what one place might be like).
The Lone Wolf adventures are all written by one man and his powers of descriptive writing are wonderful. He really makes the world come to life in a way that some of the FF books sometimes lack. The world of Magnamund seems more coherent and flows more like a real world.
Are there any other major differences?
Well let me see. There are no elves in Magnamund. Magic is handled differently too, some people call it psionics.
whats your favourite book out of the 28 or whatever so far?
Book 3: The Caverns of Kalte. In book 3 the player hunts a trecherous wizard who has betrayed the magicians guild. He has fled to the icey wastes of Kalte, across the sea to the north. I like the little chats with the guides as they take you through the icey wastes. Then there's all the environmental hazards like snow blindness or blizzards. It's great stuff
