I believe Mongoose decided it was more suited to Conan to provide for a series of unconnected adventures as Howard wrote them. Vincent Darlage wrote earlier in this thread in this direction.
I read somewhere that there will be more adventures using the same plot as the Conan short stories and the next will be the "God in the Bowl".
Though I have nothing against these short adventures, I would also like a big campaign like the one depicted in the Hour of the Dragon.

think also we have mongooses history here so yes sadly think the box set will not see the light of day I have supported mongoose since their first products and they have had a rough ride on conan

their was the conan 1st edition problems due to sloopy proof reading which has been sorted via the sons which was a lovely touch, their was the original author of conan leaving the mongoose fold most forget this was at the start ians baby(but wouldnt swap vincent and lynch for the world)

their was of course the map problem  and they have lost another guy who was running the conan show one of the main reasons I think for the delays in the conan goodies coming our way.

think after so much bad luck matt just said enough and while yes we would love for him to change his mind it is his company in the end but a epic campain like the drow series would be a must buy,

problems due to sloopy proof reading...

As much as I agree with you, there is something ironic about your statement. : )

Mad Dog

I agree Tootman, the consecutive mistake with typos, the Shadizar map and the delay in this campaign have probably cooled off Matt's temper.
But this is from these mistakes that we make the best stories.

Don't know how you feel, but the SoC program and the map scandal made Mongoose a more real company. It's maybe weird to talk that way about a profit oriented company, but all the mistakes and problems together with the discussion about them on the forum created a kind of "sympathetic bond". Sounds funny, but I think you guys understand what I mean although I lack the proper english words.

Yes, Mongoose reacted well to these problems. In fact I think it is now a must for any company (including the Gaming Industry) which wants to keep both its customers and improves its image. Image is now a strength to bring new customers (especially when they learn how Mongoose is facing these difficulties).

Though I am still rambling for some things (i.e. on-line errata for those who own the 1st edition - even if Sutek already brought a major part) I recognize the customer service there is quite good.

Now this pool thread is also a good trial to see how far they're ready to accept customers' requests. And that is why I didn't want to impose it and keeping away the "opponents" to this "announced-but-cancelled-until-further-notice-campaign".
I wanted something for everyone to explain why and if he/she wants to see this campaign published so as to bring Mongoose some arguments and matters of thought on this. They can now see how many people (expressed in percent) want this campaign and why.

Moreover even if this campaign is really cancelled, it is probable that we will have (at least) another one.

Thanks again to all the folks on this thread who've voted to get the project published, though it seems certain that Mongoose will not reconsider.

I have a modest proposal, however, that might make a lot of folks happy.

As anyone who follows US news might know, the city of Cross Plains, TX, has been devastated by wildfires. Though Robert E. Howard's home (where he wrote the Conan stories) was not touched, the rest of the town has been laid waste by fires, and many charities and concerned citizens are doing what they can through donations and other work to help Cross Plains get back on its feet.

I live in Texas, and have been a fan of REH's work for more than 25 years. If there is anything I can do to help, I will do so.

Here's what I'm proposing:

I am sitting on the first 80% of a completed epic adventure for the Conan RPG that I cannot for legal reasons publish. I don't own the intellectual property rights, and Mongoose won't publish it. I don't want to scrape the names off it and repurpose it to be for a different game, either.

I will prepare the adventures I have finished as ready-to-distribute .pdf files, with my own minimal desktop publishing resources. One every one-to-two weeks is a reasonable pace for the release schedule, giving me enough time to finish up the rest of the campaign, which has been on hold until I finish up some paying work. The adventures themselves are long enough that some could take several sessions to play through.

Then, Mongoose and/or I will distribute each chapter separately at a lowered cost (to reflect the lack of artwork and/or polish) through drivethrurpg.com, a .pdf distributor used by Mongoose regularly. The adventures will have maps and diagrams where necessary, but they won't look super-pretty. They will be fairly cheap - buying all nine chapters will be much less than the cost the ridiculousy high price they set the original box set at.

All earnings from the sales of the nine chapters of this epic adventure will go directly to one of the charities attempting to help the citizens of Cross Plains, Texas.

Cost to Mongoose= $0.

The only cost is to me, for all of the time and effort already spent writing this adventure set, and the effort doing desktop layout for .pdf publication.

This rewards you, the supporters of the game, does good for a worthy charitable cause, and frankly, everyone wins.

So, Matt and Ian... what do you think? You know how to contact me.

And frankly, even if Mongoose doesn't go for it, I encourage everyone on this forum to look up one of the worthwhile charities trying to help out Cross Plains and try to see if you can help out, even if a small amount. Considering how much joy his writing and worlds have given us, it's not much to ask.

Excellent Jason. Many thanks too. How curious though that you don't own the intellectual property of what you wrote. :?
I hope anyway that Mongoose will do something about this: either accept your proposal or publish it as previously intended.

Well the use of the Hyborian World's proper names and such is what I believe he is refering to. And as far as I know only Mongoose own the rights to use them in a RPG setting.

Jason would have been contracted on a work-for-hire basis which transferred the copyright to Conan Properties. It's usual with licensed work: everything published for Star Wars, for instance, is © Lucasfilm.

Since many of Howard's Conan stories are public domain, it's legally complex what Hyborian Age stuff you could publish. What's certain is you couldn't prominently label your work 'Conan', as that's a Conan Properties trademark; they own other trademarks too.
