Centauri republic factbook

got it yesterday and really like it.
A good work´and in line with Minbari. Hope to see the Narn book at the same quality.
If you work this way I will buy any B5 Book and forget the cursed earth alliance book.

REAL GOOD WORK :)

I was a little disappointed in the lack of coverage on the Centauri telepath organization. They do have a telepath guild, right? The only information I could find on Centauri telepaths was a single new racial telepath class.

I would have liked to see at least some information on the types of peope a Centauri telepath might report to, some information on what is legal and illegal for a Centauri telepath, and perhaps a little on the structure of the organization to which they belong.

Or if they don't belong to an organization and are individually controlled by noble houses, which is sort of what is implied in the Mind Hawk class, I'd have liked to have a paragraph or two on how they work, where they train, and how they relate to the Cantauri houses and whoever it is they do work for.

Really, overall it looks like a nice book, but as a Centauri telepath seems to be the obvious ways to play a major race telepath without too much red tape, it really should have been covered with at least a few paragraphs outside of a new racial telepath class. Don't you all agree?

I got my book yesterday and after skimming I felt a little let down. It would be nice to have the ships all pictured together with a size comparison and more info on telepaths too. I really felt that the Centauri Factbook was lacking in the area of their gods and goddesses.

Even though the Centauri seem to be apathetic when it comes to their gods and goddesses it would have been nice to have more coverage then what little there was.

The Earth Alliance book was excellent, the Minbari was almost as good but this book was kinda weak. I am happy that Mongoose has been putting a lot of energy into the project but a little more was needed for this book.

<nods>

Certainly your opinion, Ed.

Tell me, the large amount of rules crunch, the entire section of Status rules, the expose on Centauri tactics, special groups, and military forces, and the break down of the Noble Houses was not enough for you?

<sighs>

Sorry to hear it.

Stuff about the pantheon of the Centauri I can take or leave - it would have been little more than a list of made up names - the gods don't bestow special powers and there are no factions centred around their worship. Make a list of names yourself, make a few of them ex-Emperors are away you go.

I think the Centauri book is the best do date, especially the Status rules - I'm thinking of adapting those for my D&D game.

Job well done and here's looking forward to the Narn book.

Cheers

Obviously, you haven't seen the Babylon 5 Warship rule #2, which states "Thou shalt not include ship sizes in thine books, as they expand and contract with regularity". :)

Seriously, that has been a bone of contention for years. FWIW, at the end of June or so I hope to finally release an analysis of the ship sizes from the five seasons of Babylon 5, where I've done scaling from every last shot that had a Warship in it based on DVD screen-caps. I'm just starting season 4 now. Suffice to say, this has been a long project. Even then, people will have to decide how they want to interpret the results, although I'll be going with the most common lengths over a straight average. Also be aware that season 4 and 5 will really screw things up, as the sizes were actually pretty consistent during the FI CGI run. NDE, on the other hand. . .

I have a degree in Religious Studies and find the subject very interesting. I wanted to see more on the pantheon of Centauri gods and goddesses. I understand that most people do not really care about this. I think it adds dimesion to who the Centauri are and why they are the race they are. For me, the detail about the military is less important.

I will give credit to an excellent job on the rules for status and the information about the government and the major Houses. Very well done and congratulations on a great job Mongoose August, really.

Just my two cents.

It's a good book! Got my copy yesterday & have been pouring over it ever since.
I like how each race book is formulaic yet just different enough to say "Hey, I'm not reading the same book all over again"
I like how the biology section was done.

Anyway, keep it up Mongoose!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys! I hope you all like the League of Non-Aligned Worlds when it comes out. I am putting together the chapter synopsis and research for it now. :)

OK, how do I say this in a nice way...

You have way too much spare time on your hands man.

:wink:

Nah, it's more that I got to arguing about it so much back in the B5W days that I resolved to crunch the data so I never had to argue about it again!

That and I have a 2-year old who won't let me sleep through the night anyways, so as long as I'm up. . . :D

Jokes aside, let us know how it turns out.

I like what I am reading but I have a few questions. What is the stats for the Ion Bolt on the Rutarian Strike Fighter and what about the Chamelean Sensors for the Dargan Strike crusier?

On the Dargan, August mentioned something aobut that near the beginning of the thread. He did not go for AOG's EW suite and instead portrayed it as an older light cruiser to which the Chameleon Suite was added to later. It's like the 18 MAR time period.

There was some fan development of the Dargan for B5W on Hyperion's site. There was also a heavier Chameleon-equipped ship on the same site.
