Compatibility with the new Vehicle Handbook

I have a question. If it had already been answered i apologize. Will the new Vehicle Handbook update be compatible with the old published vehicles like in the early JTAS or charted space books? And another question : will there be some example vehicules in the new vehicule rulebook update, or will they all be in the upcoming Vehicle catalogue? Will the vehicules in the ancient rulebook found here or will there be entirely new vehicules?

Just to let you know and to solicit, well, opinions and frustrations, I am working on an update to the Vehicle Handbook to address at least the things that have left me a bit frustrated with the current edition and some other things.

This is not a Fire, Fusion, and Steel-type redo, but in line with the Robot Handbook (and yes, there will be a spreadsheet, but it’s a total disaster right now – or at least only ‘partially functional’).

Like the current Vehicle Handbook, this book will use Spaces, and it’s basically 4 Spaces to a dton (as a general rule – some things, like a sailing ship...

The basic answer is ..... partially/mostly compatible. Some older designs will need to be changed is the best guess based on discussions. Yes there will be several examples of how the new system works.

Probably not as much as you might hope. Though it still uses the chassis system which is a good starting point for compatibility Gier has talked about some of the major changes to bring it in line with other Traveller books. For example he talked about a complete rewrite of the fusion power rules since the existing VH fusion rules are absolutely massively over sized (for example the minimum of 10 spaces 2.5 dt is literally insane in size especially when compared to such PP in every other book). Weapons is another place where the VH makes no sense and completely ignores all other Traveller books. It a massive rewrite by the author who has been the best at integrating the various different books.

I think the Vehicle Catalog that’s coming out a few months later might be updating all the vehicles from other books to the new rules.

I don't know everything that is coming in the Vehicle Catalogue, but I do know there is a bunch of new stuff in it, so it might not be as much recycling as that.

I could hope but you are probably right and us GMs will have to do the conversion
