BF Evo, future weapons

Cluster bombs, napalm, nukes they all still work even if they miss by only seven meters...unless you're gunning for a 2m wide exhaust port

It's a better result than that anti-missile missile.

GAO re: CSAR-X: Re-Compete the Contract!
AIR_HH-47_Concept_lg.jpg

Several DID articles have covered the $10-15 billion CSAR-X competition aimed at replacing the USAF's HH-60G Pave Hawk combat search-and-rescue helicopters, and noted its twists and turns. From profiles of the original options, to transfers of program responsibility between AFSOC and the USAF and the withdrawal of the PRV-22 Osprey from competition, to Sikorsky's decision to offer the H-92 Superhawk, to our FOCUS Article covering the Boeing HH-47 Chinook's contract win in November 2006, the CSAR-X/PRV program has been eventful.

US Marines to Get G/ATOR AESA Ground Radars
ELEC_BUR_Radar_Concept_lg.jpg

G/ATOR is actually the result of fusing two programs, the Multi-Role Radar System (MRRS) and Ground Weapons Locator Radar (GWLR) requirements. Indeed, when G/ATOR Increment IV becomes operational, it will replace and consolidate the capability of numerous legacy radars, including the AN/TPS-63 air surveillance, AN/MPQ-62 force control, AN/TPS-73 air traffic control and AN/UPS-3 air defense radar systems. A December 2005 release from Sen. Schumer's office [D-NY] adds that "Current radar performance does not meet operational forces requirements... consequences could potentially allow opposing forces to gain air and ground superiority in future operational areas."

Cluster munitions aren't usually concidered precision strike weapons though.... 200lb bombs, yes, a cluster of small bomblets? no.

Well apparently we only used precision weapons in Iraq 2 the idiots return, and we used cluster bombs (on schools, playing feilds and I believe in one instance a hospital... because men with towels on their heads where seen close to these buildings so they where obviously terrorist dens) so by our politcal masters cluster bombs are precision weapons.... Such as mines we plant are mines, but enemey mines are IEDs and as we all know IEDs are evil....

Rant over for now

Well, is a mine an Improvised Explosive device? Last I check it was a purpose-build explosive divice and wasn't cobbled together from other explosives...

Well heck, we're even developing "Smart" Mines.... apparently they're digital and keep a human in the loop...

<Mine 01> Detected Intruder. Blow up? <yes/no>

Better than the New Zealand mines...
Piece of paper on the ground reads:
Hi, you've just triggered a deadly land mine. Because we're unable to actually manufacture or afford them, this mine works on the honour system. We ask that you would now cut off your leg while you are still concious.

Thank you. The New Zealand Army

actually we (Britain) don't plant mines at all  (good ol' Princess Di) but the bad Americans do :P

Yes we do, anti-tank mines

Oh Oh, those are the ones that you can play a game of Russian roulette with and everyone looses! no really, check out the Darwin awards... and entire tavern in Vietnam was taken out in a game (from memory).

But they use an XP based control system so you also get an "Are You Sure?" box popping up, by which time the bad guys have passed ovr :D

Don't forget the error report too. You have to report the fault to microsoft who will then provide a patch the following week by which time Paris has fallen and all that remains of the EFTF is Britain and a small Gaulish village that is still defiant in the face of their invaders...;)

Better than using a Mac OS on it. You won't be able to do anything but graphics work on the Mine. ;)

Don't forget the pretty menus! And the games functions. Won't the mine have to have a wheel as well?

Also Macs would be so stable there wouldn't be a risk of any explosion whatsoever ;)

Yup and what is an IED purosefully built to do..... water the planets and put the cat out before it pees on your bed? It purpose built to go bang.

No we don't plant land mines any more, we just use Cluster Bombs to sow them from the air.... Wonders which is worse.... a planned mine feild that tends to be marked out and mapped, or hundreds of tiny bomblets with hair triggers (some of which are designed to look like childrens toys, rocks, food cans and all sorts of other non bomb looking things) that are scattered by air over an area, which has been known to be schools, hospitals and play grounds / play areas.

P.S. I try not to rant over this, but it makes me so bloody mad with the hypocrisy and sheer arrogance of our military high brass and their politcal masters.

Cordos.... Look man, a Mine isn't an IED.

An IED is unique in nature because the IED builder has had to improvise with the materials at hand. Land mines, on the other hand, generally refer to devices specifically manufactured.

Not to such a great extent, and the type and long term lethality is changing....
