Thanks Hiro, I hadn't said that the new DDX might be using railguns, but I like the pics! I just laughed when I saw the statement that said that it would need to divert power from the propellers to the railgun. Doesn't that sound too much like life imitating art? Think Starblazers' Yamato/Argo and the B5 Victory/Excalibur class of ship from A Call to Arms.

Heh....Go make a Victory at Sea: Evolution mod!

Didn't I sort of already say that, as a joke? All I know is that R.A. Heinlein sure thought up some nifty stuff. I wonder if he was really from the future, Mmm? Consider The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Less talking, Buships, and more making future ships for Victory at Sea....

Or I'll tell Honor Harrington on you

Your newspapers are no match for her blade, heh. :P

Another good idea from a sci-fi author was Jerry Pournelle back in the "Star Wars" period of the 80's with project THOR. I'll bet you remember that one. Since the railgun chucks projectiles to 95 miles up, it resembles Dr. Pournelle's thin rods of dense metal that use kinetic energy to punch down through the target. His though were space-based weapons, perched upon sats.

Update!

Ok folks, remember the little portable shield I showed you? I got two more pictures for ya!

Next, you thought the Army and Marines got to have fun with anti-mine stuff.. Beyond, the poison that kills mines, Venom

It looks like after they clear the minefield the metal pins can be recovered for use as... golf tees.

I like the "blast bucket" but after blowing up the rest of the vehicle can't the bad guys just attach a hook and drag away their hostages in a ready-made prison? I'm not criticising it, as it does look like it will protect the occupants better.

Think what would happen if an enemy unit got caught under that hail of pins?

And no, Buships. Remember vehicles don't travel in ones or two anymore.

Answer: they just bring more hooks  . Yeah, I know...

It wouldn't be so bad if that guy didn't look so "amused". :P

And is that an XM25 Airburst Grenade Launcher I see in the FFW pic?

By the by, I heard through the grapevine (namely, wikipedia) that the Future Force Warrior program was shelved. Something about the Army putting so much money in Land Warrior that research in Force Warrior became cost ineffective. Gotta love the US Army.
Could someone confirm/disprove this rumor?
