Well, using the ACTA default of stem to stem was the thought.
I didn't mean "How, precisely, will you measure it", I meant "How precisely will you measure it" - as in, to the 1/10 inch? You can get a lot of fighters in a ring pretty much exactly 4" away from a stem...

And then sending in crap fighters to use up A-F while the real heavy hitters come in from behind is a bit of an obvious idea (Kotha and Sky Serpents again).

Ah  Surely that depends on the players, how picky are your opponents about range, etc.?

Thats one way to overload the defences. If there are more targets than defence network (surely defence grid ties in better with the show?) shots, then let the ship captain choose.

And the point being? This is a tactic to ensure your anti-shipping fighters get through - is it a cost you'd be willing to play (I suspect that anyway flying Kothas would be more than happy :? )

Interesting ideas. I would be in foavour of a 2" network x on ships, 4" would rate it futher then the Vorlons 2" CEP range, and into the Ancients 4" CEP range.

Perhaps also reducing or removing the network available when a ship uses a special action too.

Anti-fighter weapons would still be worth keeping, as they then have a greater range than the defense network, so can get ships like T-bolts or Sky Serpents that can loiter and can also be used to counter ships with Dodge.

Ok, I still am a big fan of AF weapons firing at fighters first.

Its simple, and realisitic. Only AF weapons actually firing at fighters go first.

If you are worried about fighters being shot at, then dont go after ships with AF! Thats why they have AF in the first place, no? Why do we all have to find a way to make fighters with teeth without nerfing AF

OR

if AF weapons are firing first, let fighters still get a dodge roll. This way you "thin the herd" per say and still represent skill of the pilots and teh AF doing its job as not every fighter would be killed in an attack run. This would also allow fighters to get an attack run, then be taken out by main guns if the ship so chooses. Fighters then COULD follow and harass a ship but be whittled down as AF takes some out each turn.

No new ship redesigns, no new systems, just a mod of an existing rule/weapon. It just does not get much simpler, adds some balance, and doesn't nerf the game itself.

How about a trait called "Rapid Fire"? Firing phase would go Rapid Fire weapons, then fighters, then regular ship weapons without the RF trait. Most AF weapons would get the RF trait but a few exceptions would exist(a few Drakh AF weapons that serve as primary weapon systems come to mind for not getting the Rapid Fire trait. Probably some other stuff as well but my mind is too drowsy to think of them at this point). This also deals with the problem of if someone wants to split an AF weapon between a fighter and a capital ship.

I like the idea that all fighters should have AF weapons. I know that isn't the topic here, but thats what I thought it was when reading the thread and it sound like a good idea.....

Whitestars will now ph34r fighters

Whitestars already ph34r fighters. A pack of 4 Frazi can nibble a WS to death quite easily. Adaptive Armour rounds down to a minimum of 1 for each weapon, so each Frazi will likely do 1 damage and 1 crew loss. Very nasty.
