worst tournament performance ever

In a tournament on Sunday, I fielded my Brakiri with the following fleet:

1 Kaliva
1 Haltona
4 Brikorta

Now, I´ve bever been a great torunament player, but this time was bad...

In three games (one of them a 8-player scenario), I´ve managed to destroy a single ship - a Maximus.

Now, while my fleet wasn´t set up for beating everything in it´s way, I´d have expected just a little more from my green little ships...

Not that I´m complaining, I still had a great time, but I thought I´d share my shame with you...

This is what happens when you apply tax cuts to your Navy. You get all the incompetent gunners and they replace those gravity weapons with IOU slips.

What did you face? I might have swapped the Haltona for 2 more Brikortas.

I took the Haltona mainly because I like the model, but also because I didn´t have two more Brikorta miniatures...

My first opponents were Centauri (3 Covran, 4 Prefect) and Minbari (2 Veshastan, 1 Tigara)

The other players in the final scenario were Narn (1 Sho´Kar, 1 G´Karith, 8 Ka´Toc), another Centauri with 3 Covran and 4 Prefect, a third with a Tertius, 2 Maximus and some other ships, a second Narn and EA 3rd age (can´t remember the setup of the latter two).

It was fun and again "Many Thanks" to MustEatBrains for the very good organisation and running of the tournament !

You´re welcome! Will let you and the others know once something new comes up (and it will, there are currently some plans in the making)

That explains why you got battered. You faced the Cheese, likely limburger in the Centauri and likely bree in the Minbari choices.

Hmm, As much as I like my Brakiri fleet, i don't think they are a great tourney fleet. Now my record in tourneys is poor at best, but I got such an amazing kicking playing Brakiri, apart from a close fight against a combined league fleet.
Of course, you faced the cheese of centauri, and the Minbari can take most people. The Narn could go either way but if he wen't all Ka'Toc bat squad on your ass, then I would expect a loss their too.
Just bad luck in opponents, although I do think the Brakiri are a tough fleet to play, shame the tourney avioki never made it to armageddon

3 Corvan, 4 Prefect....excuse me, did some order a large wedge of "Vieux-Boulogne "

I know one player off here, was quoted the above fleet was only cheesy, if you replaced one of the Corvans with a Vorchar...I beg to differ :P

ROFL. 4 Prefect, 3 Corvan is cheese in the extreme. It is only one step removed from 10 Sag. The Corvan is actually a better scout IMO. Since enemy fighters are the biggest danger to scouts, the Corvan's interceptor, Sentri flight and all-arc firepower make it superior.

Not to mention it offers less Victory Points (than the Vorchar) if you do manage to take it out...

The trouble is with the Brakiri, their staple ships of the Avioki and the Halik/Haltona are underpowered, let alone the fact that many fleets you will face are at the overpowered end of the spectrum. Balance across the fleets although not easy to achieve, is my most pressing concern of all (even more than getting rid of the typos!)

avioki might not be so good but then most people take the Kaliva anyway and if you haveno interceptors that thing rocks. kaliva plus 6 brikortas is a nasty raid level 5pt fleet.

I took that to the last Mongoose tourney - it is a pretty good selection but the Falkosi just *leak* VPs to the enemy, you may, depending on who you're fighting, not even bother launching them!

1 or 2 Ikorta aren't bad either against fleets without interceptors (although you could always wear them down with the pulsars).

To be honest, the Brikorta is the hero of the Brakiri fleet now that they have changed the main gun to a 20" AP DD Beam. Plus it comes with 4 fighters. If you want something that might be able to beat the Katan Bat Wing from Heck, then 10 Brikortas might just do it. Especailly since you field 40 fighters with that.

True, but even then, it's a limited set of selections (one without any manoeuvrability and without huge range) and that's one of the reasons why certain other fleets will generally do better in tournaments. Other than that it's actually an OK fleet :)

oh, Indeed, don't misunderstand my comments about tourney play, in Campaigns they seem to fare well enough, I slaughtered a dilgar fleet with them (admitedly my tashkat took something like 300 damage of a pantacon, interceptors 5 or not, that hurt!) but I wiped out 8 battlepoints of Dilgar for the loss of 1 Tashkat, and some damages elsewhere!!!
