Why does mongoose release an incomplete game?

No, I play wargames where there is a reasonable and "historical" balance of forces are available though.

Note - no-one is saying that in 2015 the USMC and EF have no AT infantry, just that you have to wait 6 months or so to get it. The lack of such a basic function is a big miss (sorry Matt, but I assume you would prefer an honest opinion)

It's sort of like trying to play football (soccer) with a ball but no goal posts, or rather being told that there will be goal posts, but no idea what they will do

So for the moment I'm with WF and not buying - or rather my money is going to TAG who are happy to sell me a AT team now, and since they do offer a complete range, I'll buy the rest from them and the rules from Mongoose

wait till you got wave 2, your find the lack of AT for brit and americans less of a problem, use the unfantry to take buldings and clear urban areas, thats where they excell it seems in out games.

If you ain't ahppy with the range of mini's available yet then go and play some other game and come back to BF:Evo this time next year when each of the 4 main factions will have enough units to feild fully fledged armies, with specailist weapons for every occasion.

It's hardly fair to expect that of a game with 7 units released across 4 factions though.

It's not really that much of a problem now. I've played several games and whilst it can be frustrating to caught by a unit you can't damage it's war! It happens!

By August this will be an afterthought, is that really an argument to wait or is it worth building up the foundation of a force and learning the rules and yes having FUN!

Err, actually, yes it is fair, in fact I can think of no other wargame where this has happened. OK, I am a historical wargamer not a gamer tied to a particular games system, but even so, the blatant and constant cries of either

"don't worry it will be available in (insert here)"

or

"you dont really need these anyway" is starting to irritate.

BF EVO is supposed to be based in a real world setting, granted in 8 years time. I'm not worried about the availability of future Lynx, or remote this or that, or even tanks, but being short a basic and everyday infantry weapon (not a specialist weapon btw) in an infantry squad is bloody silly and no, just because I can get a tank to do the job does not mean that things are fine and dandy. infantry AT weapons are as integral to a rifle squad as the rifles themselves, and they should be represented on day 1 of wave 1, and the only reason I can see for their absense is the restriction to 4 poses per box, ie a production issue, that is dictating the way the game is produced.

Maybe I'm spoilt by the choice available for other periods, but to me this is like trying to sell Rice Crispies but without the "pop".

rant over

my advise pilgrim is play more games.

any way id rather have Target designators to paint my target than a man portable AT weapon. and there getting as small as mobile phones by all acounts now so maybe in future could be a unit upgrade.

Privateer Press started out this way when they released Warmachine, and again when they did Hordes. AT-43 is being released in smaller waves than BF:Evo, with fewer factions. IIRC, Aberrant (Rezolution) and Corvus Belli (Infinity) are also releasing their games incrementally. So, yeah, this has happened before in the SF/Fantasy market. In some cases quite successfully.

Now, that doesn't mean you don't have a valid complaint. I would have rather seen two infantry releases for each faction, or at least smaller vehicles so Wave 1 games weren't dominated by the "tank or no tank" question. And it would even allow you to build up your army slowly, just like in real life :? . But, the Warmachine model (4 factions, big stuff in the initial release) has at least shown itself to be commercially viable, so I suppose that's the way Mongoose went. Hopefully they'll avoid the early Warmachine mistakes, and everyone will be happy in four months instead of 16...

Oh come on.... AT-43 had only 2 "vehicles" and 2 squads, but both squads had something capable of eliminating the enemy's vehicle....

Yup, problem is this is not really sci fi, it's pretty much tomorrow.

I can't help thinking if it had been 50 years ahead then it would be easier to digest

As I said, I think the first wave should have included only infantry. If that wasn't possible (not enough infantry painters at the factory, perhaps), it at least shouldn't have included MBTs. I like that there are units that can just ignore regular infantry. I don't think they should be out this early in the game, though. For example, I don't think any of the infantry has anti-air weaponry, either, but that isn't a problem because there are no air units out at the moment.

Geez guys. Has anyone had an ounce of fun with the minis that have been released so far or should we all just sell our junk and leave the forums? Give it a rest. Bickering over the release schedule in the past is pointless since it can't be changed.

And I'd venture to say if you had all been forced to wait for 3-4 minis in the initial wave you'd have been pissed at having to wait another 3-5 months from the date you got the first wave.

With all due respect... I have one response to the childlike, selfishness being displayed, "Suck it up and play with what you got or don't play at all!"

Yes you should put all your mini's up on ebay.... for a penny buy it now :o, just make sure you tell me before you do

Personally I have had a lot of fun playing the basic game, wish there was more too it (more cover and terrain stuff is a must) but I understand this thing called a release schedule, and realise it simply isn't feasable for MGP to launch 4-6 units for every faction at once.... Just can't wait for the advanced rules...... but they will come :)

Tempting, tempting. Let's say we compromise, and I'll just not play against you :).

I'm sorry you take my attempts at constructive criticism as childlike selfishness. Still, I suppose Mongoose isn't planning on releasing any further games in the Evolution line this year, so why worry about it, right?
