Vorlon Fighter's Anti-Fighter

In the battle at Gorash 7 they eat the frazi's alive. If watch the battle there was lots of little explosions around the G'Quan's.

Many of these arguments have been discussed at length here : (and a few other threads as well)

Very Very few people - well actually it seems only really the game designer thought they should be as they are.

It has been suggested that P+P is looking to address the problems and the Shadow fighters a force to be feared / worth their cost............ 8) :D

Yeah, in that same battle you can see them getting blown apart but also its amazing how much damage they do before they go!!

I would really like to see the Shadow Fighter get some love. Maybe not as a good dog fighter, but, I think, they should put a SERIOUS hurting on ships. Enough for them to be considered a real threat if you are without fighter cover.

Trust me, they can.

There are issues with getting to shoot, mostly around the anti-fighter side (ignoring the first 'hit' is a bit odd in dogfights where you're never hit as such, and as noted they do go down to frazis on a seemingly equal basis) and the shields/AF thing has been done to death.

But if you actually do get to do strafing runs (especially against something like a Vorchan pack with no Anti-fighter), spitfires have obscene shootyness, one flight packing nearly the same firepower as a sunhawk!

I'd agree that shields need to work against Anti-Fighter, but I think that shields should only come into dogfighting in that the dogfight score should include the effect of the shields.

I tend to agree - my issue with shields working in a dogfight is that they will recharge at the end of the turn, so unless you've knocked out the shields with AF before the start of the dogfight (which is an option available to very few), you will always need to outnumber the Shadow fighters in order to kill them - if you don't you will eventually lose regardless of dogfight score.

So, the solutions as I see it are:

1. Shields work against AF and do not work in a dogfight, but dogfight score is increased to compensate.

or

2. Shields work against both AF and in a dogfight, but shields cannot regenerate in a dogfight.

This isn't so - if a Shadow ship were to lose a round of dogfight (and therefore loses its point of Shield) then as with any other dogfight, a second round is fought (each player always has to nominate his fighters to attack enemy flights, even if they have already fought as part of a dogfight that his enemy has nominated).

Other options to Fix" them are:

give them same weapons range as Vorlon fighters - 3" means AF is useless against them and they have to be killed by normal guns - when the shield comes into play. Or you jump them with fighters.

remove the shields and make them more per Patrol point - 4 would be OK I suppose

make the Shadow ships that create them Fleet Carriers - it makes sense (and give the Vorlons a Carrier)

make them have 1 AD each and 6 per Wing/Patrol point to get Matts "swarm"

Make their guns accurate - the White Star in WWE gets hit by them

:D

Indeed, there are many different ways that the Shadow Fighters can be improved as a choice, and most of them would be fine :)
