UWP Real or Not???

Yup. Totally agree. To fill in the vast quantities of blanks we got random dice rolls. Now we are left with the flotsam of randomness and gyrating logic to even try to justify the existence for many locations.

I think, in hindsight, they should have left it alone until they were able to better conceptually plot out major explored areas.

Sometimes smaller is better.
Well, they didn't think they needed to that at all. They figured people would want to make their own worlds (same idea D&D had, too). So they made the spinward marches.

Much of the rest of the material was made by other people, whether fanzines or third party publishers.

I prefer the ability to create my own sector where the players can completely upend the entire thing if they want and not worry about how it might affect the Imperium. It's easy enough to bolt-on adventure modules into whatever sector we're in. I absolutely love the lore though and like using Travellermap as a reference so I know where that lore happened.

Agreed.

Spinward marches is fine - it's big but not too. Ig. And lots of adventures were set there. I still have my original map.

I forget the first attempt to provide UWP data for Human space. That's where it went wonky in my opinion. So much data required random rolls.

oh yeah, i remember that. It was just pages and pages of sector data, right? I never saw the point in that.

I've always found 2-3 subsectors to be the sweet spot and why ultimately I settled on a highly personalized version of the Islands Subsectors for my default setting. Loved them from the first time I saw them in Trillion Credit Squadron in the early 80s.

Yeah. Garbage random rolls to define all of the planets just so they could sell maps was an atrocious idea. After that the rules had to be fuzzy just to fix all the random roll crap. You can't effectively world-build using almost only random rolls otherwise computers would write better games than game designers. lol

The Deluxe Edition from Game Designers Workshop included a large Spinward Marches map. (Though smaller then the current Mongoose sector maps).

Yeah, but that wasn't what we were talking about. There was a specific product that was just tables and low end sector maps. I still have that spinward marches map from the box set. It's damn cool even if I haven't run anything in the Marches in probably 20 years. :D

I still have the original box with all its contents.

There was S3 The Spinward Marches, though subsector maps in there not sector maps.
