UWP and the Imperial Population

Electronics (sensors) check? Diff 8? +1 for skill, +1 for ability, +1 for expert, +1 for Improved Sensors. So far, they need to roll 4 or better and I didn't even take into account going slow. Since you need a 4, that puts it in Easy territory.
So what ship are you using? Type S doesn't match the sensors and doesn't include the expert software.

well Type-S are generally designed for use by exploration branch, survey branch tend to use ships like the Donosev (which for some reason in MgT is missing the life sensor, it at least has improved sensors

Okay, go slow and give them a cheap laptop with Expert Software. Still need a very easy roll.
Still doesn't explain the DM+1 sensors instead of DM 0 and the life scanners that the Type S ALSO doesn't have.

Seems to make the roll a 5 or better is 83.3%, 4 or better is only 91.7% success. Pretty high error bars. Some crews are lazy and won't take the week to do a long survey rather than spend time enjoying themselves on the surface.

Looks to me like enough for errors to be in the UWP which matches the "reality" of what people find comparing different sources.

I always thought it was dumb that they did the Second Survey using obsolete ships.

Of course the survey is done with obsolete ships, low priority = low budget. The modern EXPENSIVE ships are few in number and doing more important work.

I would suggest that it is an oversight by the game designers and perhaps should be a suggested erratum.
This is why @Terry Mixon and MixCorp should design all of the officially published ships with some of the old-timers helping him translating the spirit of the original designs while changing their technical designs to match current rules.

Edit - Make it a supplement and sell it as a 60-150 page book of all of the pre-Mongoose ships brought up to MgT2 rules. Could be a physical book or a PDF or both. Whichever works best for Mongoose making a bit of money on it. I bet it wouldn't take long to do.

I’d just be happy if they used the rules and a spreadsheet to be sure they were legal.

While it does only have Military sensors the Type-S does indeed have Life Scanners

more controversially the Donotsev doesn't and REALLY should
You mean the SERPENT class does. TL14 seems to be implied to be pretty rare as only senior pilots MAY get them. Is it going to be doing the survey or the exploring? Don't forget the accuracy of 70-85%.

Donotsev a survey vessel in the inner Empire. Not likely to be seen elsewhere. 4 times the price of the type S and 4 times the size. Crew of 10. It has the sensors with +1.

I do, just saw that and was on my way back to correct myself.

Though the Donosev was supposedly the ship designed for and performing much of the Grand Survey.

Which is why I suggested you. Otherwise, it never seems to happen. lol. Plus, maybe some money in your pocket if you wrote it for them. :P
Believe it or not. I put more money in my pocket writing for myself. ;) I don’t mind double checking their designs when I have time ( I need to do the Marches Adventures soon) but I’m too busy to do more. Thanks for thinking of me though.
