Throwing a Melee Weapon

I'm still going through the RQII rules as I'm preparing for my upcoming campaign so I have another question.

I looked through the rules to see if there is anything about throwing a melee weapon (ie: longsword). I can find nothing. Did I miss something?

Any help is appreciated.

No rules were included for throwing weapons. Generally, throwing a melee weapon (one not specifically designed for throwing) is a very ineffective action. Off the top of my head, I'd impose a -10% penalty per size of the weapon, allow the target to parry it (even without a shield), and give it a base damage of 1d4.

On the other hand, having a foe throw his melee weapon at you is usually a shock. So if the thrower managed to gain a LoS, I'd allow him to impose a 'Surprise Opponent' Combat Manoeuvre (I just made this one up) forcing the target to not be able to act on his next CA. This would give the thrower a chance to draw another weapon, freely disengage or close in for an unarmed attack.

That seems pretty reasonable. There are plenty of examples in films and books of throwing something - maybe a chair - to force the opponent to parry and for the proponent to gain enough time to draw another weapon. It is never really about the damage the thrown item does - more about tactical advantage or re-arming.
