We are throwing open our doors once again to welcome the best and brightest admirals of the galaxy in a brand new A Call to Arms tournament - Star Fleet's Finest!

There is a brand new range of scenarios to get your tactical minds around and, always, some great prizes. As well as the usual trophies, there will be some serious gift giving (last tournament, we handed out over £225 worth of prizes!), along with a free never-before-released ship for every competitor!

Full details can be found here;

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniatures/ctastarfleet/rulebooks/star-fleet-s-finest-tournament-28th-july.html

If you order a tournament ticket on its own (and only on its own), use the voucher code SFF12 and you will avoid paying any postage.

Second, when you grab a ticket, please send me a mail at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com, letting me know what fleet you intend on bringing with you!

Good stuff, Matt.

btw, the write-up says 16th July.

I take it that the Rally Point Red damage penalties only apply to the immediately preceding Fleet Action! and not the 500 and 750 point battles...

The Damage point penalties are randomly generated as part of the set up rather than actually inflicted in previous battles.

Having read the tourney pack, just to clarify:

Game 1 - 500 points.

Game 2 - 750 points, must include a dreadnought.

Game 3 - 500 point and 750 point fleets combined in Fleet Action.

Game 4 - 500 point, 750 point and 1,000 point fleets combine in Rally Point Red.

I think that even with random damage allocated that game 4 will be too long and overly complicated. :x

To be fair, they're allocating nearly twice as long they have for the 2nd game, and with all that damage already caused, ships should be popping relatively quickly. I think it just might work :)

So this is my first draft given that I have only got certain ships and not being able to reuse them means its hard work!

Fleet 1 (500pts)
C7, 2 X E4, 1 F5

Fleet 2 (750pts)
C8, D5W, 2 F5

Fleet 3
Above plus 1000pts
2 D5, 2 D6, 2 D7,

thoughts?

The 500 point fleet is a good one, and if I took Klingons I'd have gone with the same to include a heavy hitter. Anything else with a heavy hitter seems to involve 20 points spare.

Hopefully situations like that will be solved when E6s and F6s arrive (frignaughts? F*ck yeah!) but there not being a heavier frigate in the 110-120 points range means either 2E4, F5, C7 or D7C, 2F5, E4 and 20 points spare (for fleets to include a command +1 ship).

You could go all wolfpack with 2 F5, 4 E4.

Or D5W, 3F5/4E4..

Only have 3 F5 and 2 E4 - just got a fleet box.

the bits of points ehre and there are a bit annoying - be nice to have a few more variants with minor points adjustments.

Or some other method of points adjustment.

One idea I had was to be to have upgrades available on a fleet by fleet basis. An example for Federation might be Uprated Photon Torpedo. Buy them at 5pts per AD, and at any point when you're firing your photon torpedoes for the ship in question, you can swap out a standard die for a die representing the special ammo. Each AD bought in this way would be one shot, but would have the multihit 5 trait instead of multihit 4.

The main thing with such an idea in my mind is that the upgrades should tend towards being underpowered. They're there as fillers and fun, not as game breakers ;)

It would be great if either the E6 or F6 were available to buy before the tournament *wink wink*, wouldn't it? Incredibly unlikely, but I think the design for the F6 has now been approved.

I got a couple of E4 for a Fed BC on the swap thread, something I'm very pleased about, as while it only has ten shields it's still a Klingon ship and of 4 of them still delivers more firepower than 3 F5s while being more expendable as individual units.

There's one in the Orions vs Klingons squadron box (which a lot of people will be getting for the D5W and D5, so there's a chance people will be willing to part with E4s, and I'd certainly get them in multiples of 2).

Looking at the last game i can see the prep time being about half an hour, leaving plenty of time.

Warning to frigates of with 12 hp's, you could see a few start the game crippled.

Here ships like the D5 will be king, compared to the D6/D7 you have more shields and after they have to roll a second D6 damage you will prob have more HP's too.

I think a rethink is in order for many fleets, this game will be mental and loads of fun, also proberly the most 6's i will ever roll :(

Live long and prosper (over the corpses of your foes)

Yeah I have tried out the scenario and we started the game with a number of ships crippled - remember that the crits can cause damage as well. Indeed Frigates could be dead on arrival................but you do need them for early games so you likely will not have a choice as the last game is previous fleets included.

Quesiton to Matt

If the ship is destroyed in the pre game sequence does the opponent get the points?

actually it states that you dont on the mission only the points if its crippled, so if destroyed you only get crippled values.

Thats how i see it anyway.

Just to say in this particular case the D6 is better than the D5 as both roll 2D6 for damage already taken and the D6 can absorb slightly more - the D7 is as usual worst as it rolls 3D6 and only has 22 damage.

Tis true Snipes and Battlehawks are a good bet to die before they hit the table ;)

Just re-read it your right, this makes those 12 hp frigates even worse.

Well just have to plan plan plan.

What they have a tank in space?
