Some more common ship designs

I've been playing about with the ship designs and have decided (at last) to post them up here. I'll post one design per message to keep it clean and welcome any comments or critiques. Please remember these are all just my take on common ships and will all quite likely be superseded by official products.

These articles are of purely unofficial origin, and should in no way be considered official Traveller canon. Traveller is a trademark of Far Future Enterprises, inc, and is used under licence by Mongoose Publishing.
 
First off, the venerable Express Boat. I was a little surprised to see it missing in the rule book so here it is.

And what good are Express Boats without Express Boat tenders. These ships operate all over the Imperium and are used to refuel, service and transport Express boats where necessary (they can also fit a couple of scout/couriers in their cavernous bay in a pinch as well).

Next up is the type T Patrol Cruiser (though it's really more an escort than cruiser by definition). This is the most common patrol vessel used in Imperial space and carries a ship's boat and marine contingent for boarding and inspection missions. A G-Carrier is commonly carried in the ship's hold for troop and crew use on planet when needed.

The Kinunir Colonial Cruiser (from the Classic Traveller Adventure 1). Note that I left space for the Black globe generator (lacking stats and rules for it yet) but apart from that I was pretty happy with the design (this was the first ship I did with the design rules).

Sure, go ahead, I don't mind at all. Asteroid Ship (Rock) from Adventure 6 Expedition to Zhodane. In the adventure the ships boat was a 25 ton special built ship. But since I had plenty of tonnage I left it as a 30 ton Ships Boat. Also I had to fudge some of the numbers because there is no Planetoid hull in the Core book.

Hopefully this works.
Note on Hull price: I used the price of a Planetoid as per High Guard which was 1,000 cr per ton for tunnelling and 100 cr per ton for transport.
Note on Armour: I set the natural armour as 2 points and added 4 points of Crystaliron. The tons were the waste space of 20% (as per High Guard) and 5% for the armour. Cost was for adding of 20 % of what the base hull would have been if it was not just hollowed out.
Couldn't make it very neat. Sorry.
 
Looks great! I would love to see the Safari ship. Also do you have a link to deckplans? I might use some of these as I'm building a used shipyard for my players to buy theirs out of.
 
Where would a good place for a used ship seller to be? We know warships are mothballed in space and for unstreaamlined ships you don't really have an option - unless of course you can land them on an airless planet or moon.

Vacuum however can cause problems, not as many as an oxygen rich let alone a corrosive atmosphere though. Maybe the dry, desert bone yards of the American desert are the way to go, a good place for a fire fight as well if I remember GTA San Andreas accurately. Certainly a breathable atmosphere makes life a lot easier.
 
I was thinking an orbital shipyard, a bit one I saw in an episode of Star Trek: TNG or the one in Star Trek: Voyager, where the yard owner had half the ships weapons on remote making him far more armed then any sort of pirate looking for a new vessel. Besides I was thinking you would choose the ships you want to look at from holograms in the comfort of the office before you go and check them out by shuttle, which would have the needed fuel for atmo and the rest of the systems you'd want to check out before laying down a hundred million credits.

Safari ship coming up. As for deckplans, I'll see what Google delivers to my search-fu.

Here's the Animal class safari ship, based off the design in CT Adventure 10. Luxuriously appointed with large holding tanks and a trophy lounge, the safari ship is a popular choice for many nobles and other wealthy travellers.

The fleet footed and high tech Imperial Navy Fleet Courier is used by the navy to dispatch messages and data as fast as possible between the various naval assets.

This was one of the hardest designs I've done. I had to modify a few things just to shoehorn the drives, power plant and fuel into a hull this size using the Mongoose Traveller rules. Those with access to the original CT designs will see that the number of staterooms, weaponry and cargo had to be reduced to make it all fit. It still works, though!

The Dragon class system defense boat is fairly indicative of a typical defender of many systems. It's heavily armed and armored, and quite capable of shrugging off the fire from most threats. It has plenty of legs and it's endurance gives it the capability to go to ground and hide for extended periods if need be, in places like oceans or gas giant atmospheres.

The Leviathan Merchant Cruiser (from CT Adventure 4 - Leviathan) is a large ship designed and produced by Baraccai Technum in the Bilstein Yards at Glisten/Glisten/Spinward Marches. The ship was built with high survivability in mind with multiple redundant systems and an abundance of ship's boats. It's intended use was for independent cruising and trade in underdeveloped areas outside the Imperial border.
