So, when is the next regional sourcebook due?

MGBM

Mongoose
It's been quite a long while since Shem was published and there isn't any signs of a regional sourcebook until February.

So, my question to Mongoose is: When will the next regional sourcebook be released?

I believe it's time for Mongoose to start working on continuing fleshing out the Hyborian Age, there's still a lot of ground to cover. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is waiting for more regional sourcebooks for Conan. Especially if they're written by Vincent. 8)

So, add your support, or dissention, for more regional sourcebooks.

The Stormbringer specialist comes to the Hyborian Age. Inconstestably he is at an advantage with the Multiverse.
It shouldn't be too painful for Vincent as he didn't want to write it anyway.

Hmmm, Cimmeria? That's cool. Can you make up enough stuff to fill a source book? I would think you would want to combine it with Nordheim at least. Unless you include an adventure like Across Thunder River, which I imagine Cimmeria will be similar too, describing the Cimmerian clans and their differences like with the tribes in ATR. Maybe you can include a stated out Shuma Gorath...8)

Strom, I do agree with you 100%, my friend.

To fill a sourcebook about Cimmeria implies a heavy use of pastiches.
In the "canon", there's only one poem and some comments by Conan about his homeland ("we don't sell our childrens", "panther-skin loincloth", Crom is "grim and loveless", a quick explanation of Venarium...). Enough to write a nice three or four pages S&P article. Most books had pastiche material and IMO there's nothing wrong with that (if the sources were not edited out), but this one will have, like Shadizar and Messantia, MOSTLY pastiche sources (or the author's "artistic licence").
IMHO not the best choice, I would have prefered a "Turan/Hyrkania", "Black Kingdoms" or "Vendhya" sourcebook.

BTW, if the new writer takes JM Roberts writings as a reference, perhaps the book will be readable. If he uses Turtledove's, I'll keep my money.

QFT my friend! :D

I totally agree with Strom and Axerules. Cimmeria is an odd choice for a regional sourcebook (except for the fact that it's Conan's homeland), as there's not much to say about it. It is true that a format similar to Thunder River could give the book more value. There was much to tell about Shem and Argos/Zingara and the books ended in being quite hollow.

As Axerules stated, there are many lands that are more appealing, like Turan/Hyrkania, Black Kingdoms or Vendhya. A book on the remaining Hyborian kingdoms would be useful too...

On the other side, I guess there are many Cimmerian players around, so the book will certainly help to flesh out player characters, giving more options than playing the Conan style Cimmerian barbarian...

Until now, I would have considered the Slaine clans for sessions in Cimmeria because they all have what we can expect of Cimmerians(excepted the warping of course): loathing armor and running half naked toward the ennemy line.
But I have trust in Lawrence skills. May be they can even be combined.

Well, from my part I am concerned that this may mean that Vincent has been excused from writing additional material in the Conan line. That is not a prospect I am looking forward to at all. I wish someone from Mongoose would clarify regarding this situation and tell us if Vincent will keep on being used or not.

KHITAI IS NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!

..and why not Kambudja?
Followed by Pathenia?
and then Amazon?
(In other word the list of coutries less described by Howard....)
I'm happy that we are getting a new regional sourcebook but, sincerely, Cimmeria was definitevely not the one I wanted to see....
If it was for me, I would have put together the whole Northern Thuria (Cimmeria, Nordheim and Hyperborea), but it seems we will get a completely non-Howard sourcebook...I mean, it will be possibly a book of great value, but the author will need to to create a lot of material, rather than collect original Howard material.
I suspect also there wil be plenty of material from pastiche and Marvel comics (which in themselves are not so bad).
Furthermore I must say I'm bored of Cimmerians (if it was not for Conan they are, frankly, the less interesting population of the Hyborian Age and their region is certainly the less interesting portion of Thuria with not even a decent ancient civilzation to leavge ruins to explore).
Although I'm an old Conan fan I started to be a GM of Conan Rpg only a month ago and I already have a Cimmerian pc.
Years ago when I used to play Gurps Conan I had even 3 Cimmerians...I really hate them.
Players wanting to spoil Conan'model are really boring...

I really didn't care which would come next (though as I already told Cimmeria was already announced by Matt in last December/January) as long as each and every region is detailled in the end.

Cimmeria can be a great place of adventures (as long as you don't invade with an army).

There was an old essay (I think it was in an old SSoC issue, maybe by Glen Lord) that suggested that Conan's mother wasn't cimmerian, probably of Nordheimer stock (Aesir if I remember), hence the differences, both physical and psychological, between Conan and his people. I can try to unearth the essay for those interested, though it can take me a while...
