So, when is the next regional sourcebook due?

1.5 to 2 years ago I homebrewed a (brief) campaign where I listed various Cimmerian clans (both imaginary and in RoK) with small bonuses/weaknesses etc. to each. That might be too granular for most Conan d20 players but I liked the concept. It was simply an extension of the idea that different races get bonuses/competencies/proficiencies.

E.g. a given clan "A" is good at using axes, so they get a +1 to attack and Dam with axes, but are terrible swimmers to they get a -1 to any Swim checks. Stuff like that....

Snowhawk Clan folks (e.g. Conan's pop) were known for blacksmithing (back me up here!) so they get perhaps a +2 to Craft (blacksmithing) checks. Etc., Etc.

YMMV.

I think you may of hit the nail on the head Yogah. That is what I imagine the Cimmeria sourcebook will expand on, tribal differences besides their name. One really great benefit will be the fleshed out background Cimmerian PC's can elaborate on besides the 'I'm Cimmerian! I left Cimmeria because my woman was killed by Ymir-cursed Vanir!"

I didn't mind the exploration of Cimmeria in the Age of Conan novels staring Kern, although Vincent certainly can list the many discrepancies with Howard canon. Also, the description of Cimmeria by Richard Knaack in his Age of Conan novel was inspiring. Richard seemed to grasp the vastness, gloominess and bitter extremes of the weather and the land of Cimmeria. The current Born on the Battlefield story arc in the Dark Horse Conan comic is also a harsh, graphic reminder of just how plain gloomy a realistic Cimmeria would be. I would leave too if I was Conan!

Just stay away from Turtledove's Conan of Venarium. He just phoned in his effort and it shows. I've only had one small adventure take place on the outskirts of Cimmeria and Vanaheim to date. And it would be cool to explore Cimmeria more with this supplement!
