question about the Victory-class destroyers

a question about the Victory-class destroyers

how does the Lightning Cannon work quote from the book

If the Lightning Cannon is fired, the Victory-class destroyers may not fire any other weapons and will be moved forward 4” next turn. However,
it then cannot do anything else (except take damage) until after the End Phase of the next turn. Nothing. Nadda. Zilch.

does this mean.

A. you fire the Lightning Cannon this turn and no other wepons this and next turn Nothing.

B. you fire the Lightning Cannon this turn and can fire other wepons this turn, but Nothing next turn.

stat rang arc AD spec
Lightning Cannon * 20 B 8 Beam, Precise, Quad Damage
Improved Neutron Laser 30 F 6 Beam, Precise, Triple Damage

if its A it's not likelly I would fire the lighting Cannon much if at all it's only a litte bit better then Improved Neutron Laser and it is a shoter rang borsite weapon.

so plese tell me it's B.

Actually, this was discussed in a previous thread somewhere on here.
I thought the consensus reached was that you could fire anything you wanted on the same turn as the LC, but only so long as the LC fired After anything else.
Nothing can fire after the LC.
And then next turn it drifts and goes "Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow."

That's how it was in the last edition Taran, this edition it has been clarified that if you fire the lightning cannon, nothing else fires.

Well it wasn't used much in a show and when it was it was for special circumstances.

It's still good weapon if you really, really, REALLY needs that one ship taken out NOW and not later.

Only problem it really has is short range though not sure was it suggested to be long range weapon in show either and come to think about vorlon guns(from which this is derived) aren't exactly long range either so kinda makes sense.

Actually, it's a lot more dangerous. Those extra dice give you a benefit, and quad damage gives you a benefit - but you also get the quad damage benefit on the extra dice...

An average main gun shot nets you 50 points of damage, compared to 28 for the lasers - not far shy of double.

Mind you.....when you throw in the Victory-classes other guns, it's not quite so overwhelming....effectively 41 points of damage becoming 50, and forfeiting the next turn's fire.

As noted before; the lightning cannon is not an uberweapon to be used at any opportunity. But it is a massively powerful weapon to keep up your sleeve for those occasions that you need it, for instance:

If the target ship has to be killed DAMN WELL NOW (e.g. it's jumping out).

If the Victory-class is only able to fire one weapon system, or the lasers are disabled.

If the Victory-class is probably not going to be there after the shooting phase ends, and you have a chance to take someone with you.

average main gun shot is actually 32 plus crits
average INL shot gets you 18 plus crits but that gets to fire next turn as well so 36 plus crits.
then add in all the other weapons. the main gun is just not worth it unless like you said target is jumping out or there isnt going to be another turn.

that's how I was seeing it.

the Victory is still a good ship.

but fireing lighting Cannon just don't seem to be good to do.
you have to line up the shot, you are in the med of ever one who is going to give you all of what they got.

just fireing the Improved Neutron Laser is a better to do.
you are not helpless after.

I have a friend that likes to, in larger games, take two Victories and just alternate firing their main guns. Yes, it may not be the most efficient playing style, but it sure is scary as hell, and a whole lot of fun.
