Prostitutes and wages

I had a player in my game ask about prices for prostitutes. I saw the prices for purchasing slaves but the AE book makes no mention of how much one night's pleasure is worth.

Are these prices listed anywhere, or should I still keep using the 1/10 of the price to buy the slave?

Or is this something that requires a Profession check from the hooker?

have the randy player get robbed by the girls, who then vanish?
or
have em overcharge him + he gets a very sore disease?
or
have em refuse his offer cos he stinks too bad, or they laugh at his manhood?

u can soon stop the player from wasting your time with pointless puerile teen-boy whoring fantasies.
official sample pros + price lists??
who cares? just make up your own on the fly?

There are some tough women in Cimmeria,
the rough Vanir wenches are hairier,
but the whores of Shadizar are scarier!
often sore and diseased in that area...

Make it up

Make em suffer

Make em wish they'd never asked

Oh and don't forget the jibe that the player in question needs to grow up a bit.

Sounds like standard G.M. tacticts to me..... <grin>

A generalisation for any profession / service is you pay for what you get, so 'Quality' means high prices. There is usualy a 'base price' for lowest quality, most basic service performed by the apprentice after that the sky's the limit.

What a nice chance to relieve the p.c. of his money/goods/weapons and leave him lying bleeding in a gutter....

Well normally I would just throw this kinda thing in with the "high living" rules but my players enjoy hearing specifics about how they spend their money, not just a quick one liner about how they just blew all their money on beer and whores.

The player is a bit childish in this regard and I suspect he may find himself killed pretty soon as he is used to D&D, not Conan.

But we'll see :) Thanks for the hints and tips!

I'm on board with making them suffer, as was REH I beleive- think "Rougues in The House". I wouldn't tell them to grow up or get smart though, because stupidity and immaturuty are the keys to high adventure.
I actually based pretty much an entire EarthDawn campaign off the repercussions of one visit to a prostitute. The character stupidity that led to that moment was partywide and nearly beyond human comprehension, but it provided me with an entire year's worth of material.

I frickin loved running Earthdawn.

For those of us that don't have the Shadizar boxed set, what do they say is the average price for this? I don't need details, just an average price. It's only a matter of time before a player either asks or decided to masquerade as a prostitute to cover an assassination attempt (they did it in my Hackmaster game a while back).

To play Set's advocate,

I generally encourage more actual roleplay in the games that I run, so I can't fault a player for wanting to rpg having the night out on the town. Also, in the player's defense, whoring and such is a good part of the flavor of Conan, as opposed to generic D&D. Now if the game has not focused on a more RP-intensive style of play, then the player should have been more aware of this. If the GM doesn't have a problem with more mundane RP, every so often, then so what? As for the price of a prostitute, Quigs, you're the GM, just make up any price. If you think that 1/10th the price of a slave sounds fair, then that's a fair price. And after glancing at the prices for slaves, I think that is fair, probably with a few coins difference depending upon location and how exotic or unique the prostitute in question may be.

Heretics of Tarnatia describes a fee of 10 silver pieces for a women's time.

I could see this question coming up (although it hasn't yet in my adventures) and can understand a GM wanting to have the answer ready if only to help explain the high cost of living.

This may be a dangerous first post, but i just wanted to say i agree wholehartedly with Amonkra here. IMO a part of REH's genius was that he made gritty pulp-fiction fantasy that was politically incorrect and was pushing the borders of what was tolerated. If anyone wants to capture some of that in his or her game i say "go for it!"

What this thread really needs is for someone to transcribe the old 1e wandering prostitute table

As far as prices go, you could always just ask the player how much the want to spend for their fun .... the more they spend the lower their subsequent Fort save

Heh, fun thread.

Checked the Shadizar books from the box set and there are a few things to consider. First, you have your basic brothel prostitute but there are also temple prostitutes to consider. Price could be different considering which one you choose. Also, the adventure book contains a basic brothel layout that includes "quickie rooms" (cheap) and a "pillow room" (more expensive) and a room with a pool and a four poster bed (most expensive). So, if a PC asks what the price is ask him:

"You want the quickie, the pillow room or the all popular room with a pool?"
