All going well, next week sees the release of The Imperial Navy - we are just working on the last bits of art and graphic design to really knock this tome out of the park! So, what can you expect to see in this book?

Penned by Martin Dougherty, The Imperial Navy aims to be the last word on the Imperium's senior service, and we have really tried to fit everything into this book, from its birth in the history of the Imperium, to current tactics and deployment strategies.

1Pages 132-133.jpg

All of this is, of course, complimented with some of the finest art to grace the interior of a Traveller book.

2Pages 154-155.jpg

From fleet organisation and the different roles each ship plays within the navy, to the duties of personnel at every level The Imperial Navy works well as background for the Referee as well as fleshing out Navy career characters - there is plenty in here for Travellers to latch onto as they start to explore just what a rolled event during their career actually meant for their development.

3Pages 110-111.jpg

You will also learn about security and operational procedures aboard a warship of the navy, what personnel are generally equipped with, and where interlopers will get stopped (generally right outside whatever airlock or hangar they entered by, normally...).

You can see here the entire chapter listings from the book's contents page:

As will also be clear, we have gone heavy on the graphics in this book to demonstrate clearly not only fleet organisation but also typical tactics employed by the Imperial Navy. We have done this as an aid to the text, bringing to life just how these big ships are used against pirates, invading fleets and, yes, errant Travellers.

Finally, we have taken a new look at the classic Tigress dreadnought, with a really deep dive into its internal workings and usage in the fleets.

The Imperial Navy will be released on PDF and pre-order next week. As mentioned, we are just waiting for the last art and graphics, and final proofing, so we are currently expecting it to appear mid- to late week!

Ooh - are we seeing the Huron and Vrysonu again?

p110
  • Is it low-g or low-G? Both are used on this page.
  • Navy snubs are exclusively semi-automatic...
The snub SMG has Auto, so it can fire in burst or fully-automatic. Seeing as the next sentence references revolvers, is that meant to be self-loading?
p111
  • ... and pistol-type assault grip.
Nitpick, but just 'foregrip' would suffice! 'Vertical foregrip', if you wanted to be specific.
  • ... whereas 'make sharp!' or 'draw sharps'...
Again, nitpick, but 'draw sharps' is the only command here without an exclamation point.

  • Criteria for being washed out or leaving can vary depending on the needs of the service, but only if expansion is underway or heavy casualties have been taken.
This feels odd - was that meant to be 'can vary depending on the needs of the service, but are only slackened if expansion...'?

Among the equipment covered, will we see the various uniforms for enlisted and officers, for everything from casual day to day wear up to fancy parties?
In a nutshell, yes. We actually did quite a lot of work on uniforms, and in the end decided that the Imperium is just way too large to standardise every uniform at every rank and branch - so you will be getting a selection :)

Is it 1105 canon compliant or is it a mish mash of doctrine from different eras? is it Agent of the Imperium compliant?

Thanks - that’s good enough for me!

(And the rest will invariably be included in the no doubt upcoming A guide to imperial uniforms book that someone is surely working on? No? JTAS article?)

Considering the author, it's almost definitely a mix of T20's Grand Fleet and MGT1's Sector Fleet. I don't remember any major deviations from AOTI, save for a prototype J-6 ship being referred to as a corvette, but that might be me forgetting.

I agree. Less is more. How about a simple fix like striking the second half?

Criteria for being washed out or leaving can vary depending on the needs of the service. , but only if expansion is underway or heavy casualties have been taken.
