Orignal trav books vs Mongoose versions

So, I recently got Marc Millars CD ROM with all the original GDW Traveller books in it - havent read too much as I was looking at the adventures mainly.

But given how Mongoose seem to have copied the subjects/topics of the various books I was wondering how much of the old material is either re-printed or updated in the new books? Is GDW High Guard or Vargr anything like the Mongoose version? Or is Mongoose 're-imagining' the original books?

What I have is 're-imaging' - with a lot of subtle and not so subtle changes. The game mechanics have changed quite a bit - and mostly for the better IMHO. There are plenty of threads from early last year dealing with this.

MGT is 'mostly compatible' as far as final designs, but it is its own flavor - my read on compatibility is you would get more mileage from the adventures then the core rule books. Since I never used these, to me, MGT is a new set of rules with the feeling of an old friend. YMMV.
