Since the Liati is cropping up continually in the G'Vrahn thread, it's clearly a subject worthy of some discussion. Yes, I'm a Narn player, but this isn't a knee jerk reaction to the G'Vrahn poll, it's just that this ship keeps "muddying" the waters in that poll, so IMHO it deserves a spotlight of its own!

Personally, I think the Liati is fine - it's very fragile, but its speed, manouverability, and dodge somewhat mitigate against that frailty - it's a Doberman, not a Rottweiler! This is why I'm not going to suggest "fixes" here, because I don't believe that it needs fixing, so this is an attempt to gauge the communities opinion concerning this fine vessel!

I'll probably get the poll choices all wrong here, but I've given them some thought and whilst they are quite broad options, hopefully it will give us a reasonable spread of opinion. I'm deliberately avoiding using emotive terms like 'broken', and really just trying to gauge its perceived effectiveness.

Dave

I love it but think it is about right......but that might be my Centauri bias

It hits hard but can, in turn, be hit hard back. :)

I voted "Some other opinion"

As an EA player I am never overly enthused about fighting Liati's. It usually takes the entire firepower of my Fleet to ensure it's death and not even then.

The only person against whom I have had successful Liati kills has been Da Boss (no offense dude) as he enjoys a straight in guns blazing approach.

But pretty much everytime I have faced off against our local Centauri player I have been absolutely hammered by the Liati, I despise them with a passion, really fast, really manouverable, dodge and a not tooshabby weapons loadout.

personally i think its to frail, yes its effective maybe if used well, but in most games we have played its overlooked for more ships, or a different battle ship, i think its very easily destroyed by the right manouvers, still i like the marzipan log, kay (missus) has one in her fleet, dosent use it much though

I think it's fine as is, good guns, nice defences, but if it fails it's dodges it's fodder same as a whitestar. if I wasn't facing ISA I would be looking at Dargans probably, it's not a standout choice at battle, it's just a good choie along with the Dargan for me. Better than some other battleships of other races, worse than others.

Really must try and think about things when I fight you - still as long as we have fun :D which we do!

I like it, I think the Centauri have some very interesting Battle options with the Liati and the Dargan, makes a nice change from just bigger and more guns.

and this is one of the important things, its not a stand out ship from the other battle level choices of the centauri. you have 4 choices at battle and all of them are as viable as each other in differant situations.

I wonder if my mate John Wall is going to post on this thread, since according to him both Battle and War priority levels are not a Centauri strong point - whilst I agree on the latter, I vehemently disagree on the former.

yeah the centauri have some decent battle choices. war I am unsure on, it looks good on firepower but the slowness and short range means if playing scenarios where set up is 36" apart the octurion may have a problem doing anything before being shot down.

of the only real weakenss in a centauri fleet is at war level, they will do alright! and thats only at range, get an octurion in the middle of a fleet and it should shred it

Most of all choosing a battle level ship for the Centauri is a choice as they all have agood and bad points but are all, I think worth the level.

The Octurion I had hoped for a range to match the Sullust and/ or an interceptor dice or two............... :D

Unless you're shooting at hull 6 ships with interceptors...

The model is awful and should be thrown in the rubbish.
End of Transmission.

Having put together and painted my close friend's Liati for him before a tournament (he "just didn't have time"), I can say that a good paintjob can really make all the difference on the ship.

Not that I would knock Adrian's paint style, but the hue/colour choice he made for the Liati on our website does NOTHING for its model at all.

I went with dark purple and brown/gold details...it looks really good if I do say so myself. Give it a chance before you bin it.
