Official Mongoose Traveller 2nd Edition Character Sheet On Roll20 Is Live!

Banded Mongoose
Just to let you know that there is now an official Mongoose Traveller 2nd Edition Character Sheet. It appears in the dropdown list as:
Screenshot 2024-09-06 at 18.29.00.png
Mongoose have asked me to make an official version of the Roll20 character sheet I upgraded over the last year and this is now live!

The sheet reflects the Traveller rules style guide and now has the correct logos and attribution as Mongoose Publishing now own Traveller.

In conjunction with this, official compendia for the Traveller rules are in development and the sheet will, in future, support drag and drop from the compendium and opening compendium sections from the character sheet.

The sheet is fully backwards-compatible with the previous one, no attributes have been changed, it is mostly styling with one or two minor bug fixes.

The previous character sheet will no longer be updated.

Please do give feedback on this thread as to usability, readability, any issues etc.

Best regards,

~ Coryphon ~

Is there a way of moving PCs on the old unofficial Roll20 character sheets to the new one without having to manually rekey all the information?

Absolutely, your GM just needs to change the Roll20 game settings to use the new official character sheet and your characters will require no changes.
The new sheet is effectively a re-skin of the old so is backwards compatible.

This is fab work, a few gotcha's were thrown in taking an older sheet and making it official, but the hard work there is done. Now onwards to Compendium drag and drop next.

Did a quick test of the new sheet. Looks much sleeker, but I found the font has very similar lower case a and o. Don't know if this is the same font as before, but maybe the font size is smaller now as I never found this a problem with the older sheet. Now, however, when you type something in the text boxes, I find it hard to distinguish between those two letters, the lower case a and o. It's not a big issue, but could this be remedied somehow (or am I the only one having this problem)?

Take for example, in the above screenshot, the word "Vargr" (race entry). If I didn't know the name of the race beforehand, I would be hard pressed to see whether it is vargr or vorgr.

Hi Lurking Grue,

It is a new font, I picked a Google font called Teko which is similar to the Mongoose subheading font in the rulebooks. Font size should be roughly the same, but I can make it a little larger for clarity. Will also look into other fonts. Thank you for the feedback,

For the readers a little on the Thick side, myself included, note the new character is Traveller 2e... and the old was Mongoose Traveller... so you have to scroll down from "M" to "T" to find it.

Hello! I just gave an initial glance over the new character sheet. I thought I'd note two things that would be nice in the official version--
Support for the additional stats from the Compendium, like Luck, Sanity, etc. and have them in the dropdowns.
Including Psionic Strength in the Attribute Drop Down for skills, and including the other attributes in the Dropdown for Psionic Talents.

I'm still using my custom character sheet for my streamed Drinax campaign (we started Season 5 last Friday, woot!), but I'll pull up a test Roll20 campaign and give the sheet a proper testing. I'm probably going to keep my changes to the way attribute damage is dealt--I've found the current set up unintuitive for my players and I know the official sheet will not change due to needing to be backwards compatible. But I am excited by all of this! Compendium work? Looking forward to it!

Hi TrooperSJP,

Additional stats such as Luck, Sanity can be added to ‘Characteristics’ on the Prime tab which is a repeating group.

Regarding Psionics that is all in the Powers tab… Ok, just read your post again, I see what you mean, will look into that!

I will also look into the attribute damage, it is very unintuitive at present!

Hello!

I just checked out the Characteristics section. Awesome that I can add Charisma or Luck or whatnot. Though, they don't show up in the drop downs for the skills or psionic talents. It would be great if they could be. ( and if Psionic Str could be a drop down option for the skills too)

As for the attributes, I did work out a different format--one that is more in line with standard Roll20 sheet practices...which means that you can then map your stats to a token and have them be useable. For example, when running my campaign, the three physical stats are mapped to the three bars on the token. It makes running things much easier. I can share that code with you if you like!

Hi TrooperSJP,

So, good news and bad news. Good news, Psionic Strength has been added to all skill dropdowns and the other characteristics (Strength etc.) have been added to the Powers dropdowns.

Bad news is that Roll20 do not allow manipulation of the dropdown content to dynamically add new entries, e.g. from the Characteristics repeating field for Luck, Sanity etc.

I'm still investigating but don't think it's going to be possible.

The above will be in the next release along with a number of cosmetic changes (larger text, adding/removing some borders, font colours for clarity etc.) and a couple of minor bug fixes.

With respect to the attribute damage situation I have a solution. I'm going to add a settings checkbox called 'Sensible Damage' which will swap out the 'Temp' inputs for 'Current' inputs. Literally you knock the 'Current' value down when you take damage and it's a running total of what you have left, and will drive the 'Mod' field...

So instead of:

Screenshot 2024-09-14 at 13.18.38.png

You'll have:
Screenshot 2024-09-14 at 13.20.06.png

So basically more like treating them as hit points! And token bars can use Current and Rating to show you have 9 of 11 remaining etc.

Is that what you do/were hoping for? I assume this only applies to Strength, Dexterity and Endurance, or can other attributes get 'damaged' as it were?

Rating/Current/Mod is exactly how I do it. And how wonderful you could have a toggle! Thank you for that!

I wonder if there is any way add to the dropbox...hm...

Got to say I'm pretty disappointed the choice for official support is Roll20. I was expecting official support for Fantasy Grounds was going to pick up again.

They are not abandoning support for Fantasy Grounds. They are just adding support for Roll20. The people doing FGU and Roll20 are freelancers and always have been. The original person doing most of the FGU work had to step down. I believe they have someone else doing some work, but it is a lot of work.

The VTT market is sufficiently fragmented that it probably isn't cost effective to employ someone to do this for them full time.

@MadBeardMan did almost all the work on FG back in the day as a full freelancer doing it on his own.

Now he is part of an official VTT team (of 2) who are currently working on FG, Foundry, and Roll20.

MBM has been sharing hints on his socials about updates to the FG materials. He said he is concentrating on updating all the existing material to the new format/updates. Then implied new books will be coming out after that.

It is only a 2 person team but with the new Fair Use policy from Mongoose fans can create things and post to the Forge for FG, etc also.

Oh, MBM is back? Nice. I must have missed a memo somewhere. Or just misunderstood what I read.
He got hired by Mongoose directly, like 2 years ago? To head their VTT effort.
NotaSnark has been working on a Foundry module for Mongoose 2e for their personal use.
And Coryphon is new to me.

So the characteristics tab is a decent work around but not the best.
For instance, I am running a game on Gvoguek, which is indy planet between Zho and Vargr. The planet is mostly Vargr, so Charisma is dominate over Social but the Zho make up second largest ethenic group so Soc is still used.
If there was no Soc being used, then I can just say say Soc is Cha.
But since they'll be using Cha over Soc, but they will still have Soc.
I have a situation where either I have the Soc on the stat bar be Cha, then have a Soc in the charastic area be actual Social and that will invite confusion and stuttering.
Its good that its there, but Soc on the stat bar should be switchable to Cha Ter and the one that Hiver have that I cant remember off the top of my head.

The Skills need take in account Sophont DMs.
Yes there is Misc tab which can for now take up this use.
However, the Misc tab to me at least, is for equipment bonus or siturational/narrative bonus and not static bonus such as being a Bwap that just loves Paperwork. Paperwork is cocaine for Bwaps.
This doesnt need to be on on the skill tab, this can be on the Prime tab or Note tab.

Hi agentwiggles,

Thanks for the feedback, and hello! I revamped the old MgT2e Traveller sheet on Roll20 over the last year or so, and am now official ;-)

I'll look into the Characteristics, I'll see what the situation is for using the extended characteristics from the Traveller Companion.

Can you expand on:
The Skills need take in account Sophont DMs (You mean the SOC/CHA and similar situations?)
Yes there is Misc tab which can for now take up this use (Do you mean the Other Skills at the bottom of the Skills tab? If yes would you want this moved to the Prime tab?)

Best regards,

On rereading my post I did leave that a bit under bake.
So the planet is between Vargr and Zhodani.
The planet is Vargr dominant, ergo Cha is dominate.
However Zho is the second largest ethnic group ergo Soc is still important.

This means I can have the star bar Soc be Cha or the have Sox be in the characteristic section.
Or I can keep soc as soc on the stat bar and place Cha in the char area. And since Cha is the important one they'll be in there more then they'll be using Soc.

For option one, that'll just promote confusion, tedium, slowness

For option 2 that will promote tedium and slowness.
Neither option is great.
Though 2 is the better option.

For static sophont DM.

Various sophants have DM to skills. Vargr get a DM+2 to recon Bwap gets one for Admin as examples.
The misc bonus tab can take care of that.
Though I think that is better served by equipment bonus or situational bonus. The static sopant bonus should be it's own field. Though i don't think it needs to be on skill tab. I think it can be on the notes or primary tab.

Many thanks agentwiggles, I’ll have a think on these and see what works best logically and with screen real estate.

I could add a toggleable panel under the six main characteristics to cover Wealth, Morale, Luck, Sanity and Charm… possibly with check boxes as to which ones user wants shown…that’s doable… Trouble is I can’t dynamically add them to the dropdowns under the skills…

Hmmmmmm…. I’ll have a think…it’s a couple of tricky ones… ;-)

Thanks,
~ C ~
