Noble Armada: easier to hit big ships?

A thought crossed my mind.

At the moment large ships (higher hulls) are harder to hit as well as mounting more powerful weapons. I wondered about reversing this to make smaller ships harder to hit instead.

In the RAW your attack die has to equal or exceed a ship’s hull score to hit, then you roll for bulkhead/solid/critical hit.

Was just pondering the following change:

To hit: roll hull value or lower (reversing the current ease of hitting), a one on this roll is always a critical (thus eliminating a step in the attack process)

Just wondered what people’s thoughts were

Edit: Actually I just realised on obvious fault, 1 in 6 hits are critical no matter what size ship you're firing at

You would need to look at the points costs for the ships and rebalance. This will change the game hugely I should think - at present the whole point is that big ships can stand in the battleline with less worry than smaller secorts and light warships?

If you wanted to simulate specific fast agaile ships evading fire - be better to look at either rasing their hull scores or adding in the dodge trait (bascially as a save)-

It’s not that they are harder to hit.

A higher hull number is more a reflection of harder to hurt.

A hull 4 hit is fairly easy to hurt compared to a massively buttressed and defended hull 6 ship.

Smaller ships which are hard to target have stealth. The bigger ships with thick hulls and layers of structure that allow them to shrug off many hits without damage probably get hit more often being larger and slower. It just takes a lot more hits to hurt them.

So that hull 6 floating brick may be hit by 5 shots out of 6 fired at it but only one of those hits breaks through the hull and does damage. Those little hull 4 frigates may be hit 3 times out of 6 but every hit hurts.
