Listing redundant systems question

Evening, PDT, everyone,

Looking at the sample designs in MgT HG, Traders & Gunboats, and Fighting Ships some of them show how to list redundant sytems. Unfotuntely, not all of the possible systems combinations are shown.

How would one note that the vessel has say two fusion power plants? The power plants might be the same code or two different codes. Would the redundat power plant be listed in the Power Plant section or the Extras section?

Thinking about power plants brings up another question. Why do the larger vessels have only one power plant? Most maritime vessels have more tha one boiler that provides the steam to run propulsion and power generation systems. Heck, with the exception of submarines and small craft, most combatants have at least two separate engineering spaces to minimize the chance of losing all pwoer and propulsion. Of course Murphy seems to screw up the best of plans on occassion.

I've compiled a ship readout that lists most of the components list in both the core rule book and HG. Would anyone like to have a copy for review?
If yes please drop me a PM and I can provide the document as either an Excel spreadsheet or create a pdf using the Soild PDF converter.

To stick within the system while still providing some variety and realism, I use descriptive text to note things like multiple power plants - but they still show as one power plant in the stats sheet. That's assuming we are talking about multiple power plants running at the same time, of course, not back-ups - those would be listed separately. But if you want to say your ship has the equivalent of power plant B (or manoeuvre or jump rive, come to that), but that it's split into two units, I would put that in the text.

This is how I approached the Nemesis design.

Howdy Vile,

Thank you for the reply and link showing your work. Looks like another item that I have to save my money for.

In the first part of my question I was, unsuccessivley, asking about a back-up system other thant the emergency power system described on Hg p. 42. Installing a fusion plant and having a chemical plant as a backup.

While adding the description of multiple power plants in the details is good I'd also like to see the notation in the readout. But, I'll probably keep following the guidleines as shown.

Again thank you for the reply.
