Interest in a SF ACTA tournament at Warlords of Walsall?

I can confirm that depending on the date of the event the following from the Kettering Crew can attend a B5 themed event -

Me
Greg
Paul
Alex
Ken

:)

Any update on this - you have 5 players ready to go - just need to have some dates and format firmed up etc - thanks

Sorry guys, for the late response, just finished the process of moving back to uni! Annnnnd breath lol

Right, so the common date that cropped up, was the 17th of November . . . that is the date that has now been booked with the Warlords club (church) and is being promoted on the Malifaux boards as well by my counterpart.

A number of the Warlords guys have expressed an interest in taking part in B5, such culprits are myself, shane, dean and I'm hoping andy as well. I'm trying my level best to get dale along; but he does work on saturdays so its a long shot.

Format wise, I'm going to look at last years tournament, and take on board suggestions for tweaking it. Unless you guys have something else you prefer, such as a campaign day, as opposed to a tournament.

Cheers, Rich

Jolly Good - 17th is booked off at work for me :)

I still like the idea of doubles but happy to play in most formats

Train and Travelodge are now booked - I'll be there! Either a tournament or a campaign will interest me. Doubles could be interesting for one game, at least.

Right then gents, the projected numbers for this, are as follows:

Charles,
Kenny,
Greg,
Paul,
Alex,
Adrian,
Myself,
Shane,
Andy,
Dean (potentially)
Hiff (are you able to make this; or is it a definite clashathon?)

I'm going to figure on a worst case scenario of 8 players, not including me, anything else is then a brucey bonus :)

Format guidelines to follow.

Cheers, Rich

This time around, I'm entertaining the prospect of a doubles event, with random teams and given we have at least 8 players, that gives us 4 teams at least. I have opted for 3 games this time around, with more time, but higher points allowances . . . this should still allow for a relaxed day.

We will be playing upto P&P, minus Centauri Hunting packs, doubles partners will be decided by random lot, on the day . . . no collaborations on fleets, this will be a test of how well you can adapt.

As this is a team tournament, it will be treated as a single pool, with each time gaining a set number of points for a win/loss/draw etc. Simply, the team with the most points, wins.

Shadows and Vorlons may ONLY be used in game 1, after that its an Ancient/Vorlon/Shadow free zone, so if you are planning to use those you will need a second list to default to. Each player, may write TWO lists for each game, and upon discovering your team mate, may select one of those lists to play with each. This is to give some degree of flexibility. The lists must be submitted to me, via email at r.godfrey547@btinternet.com, no later than one week prior to the event.

10am -10.30am
Arrival at the Hall – coffee or tea refreshments, pre-game insults, taunts, declarations of conquest etc etc,

10.30am, Game 1 (6 pts Skirmish per player)
Annihilation scenario, fixed scenery, no hyperspace permitted.
ISD's [in service dates] of 2248 or before apply to this game.
No battle level ships may be used in this game; max 8 ships per player.

This game is intended to be a morning shakedown cruise, I for one will be as rusty as hell, and I think it will be nice to ease back into the flow of things.

noon - lunch break

1pm – 3pm, Game 2 (4 pts Raid per player)
Assassination scenario, fixed scenery, no hyperspace permitted.
ISD's [in service dates] of 2262 or before apply to this game.

You must have one ship of Battle level or higher in the team/ one Battle level or higher ship of your choice may have +1 CQ; max 8 ships per player.

3:15pm – 5.30pm, Game 3 (5 pts Battle per player)
Annihilation scenario, fixed scenery, hyperspace permitted for 2 ships per fleet.
Maximum 10 ships; no other restrictions apply including ISD's.

This is the final gamble; your last chance to seize the day . . . . your fleet command is committing its full resource to your efforts. You must be victorious no matter the cost.

evening - awards, final taunting and departures.

General info :
Only official ship stats are to be used (except for P+P revisions) no exotic fan made productions. Proxy ships and counters are permissible, but if you use proxies, please make sure opponents are fully aware of what they are at the start of the game.

With the exception of race specific bonuses; all other ships start games with CQ4.

Other business:
Sadly the Warlords cannot match the fabled hospitality of Da Boss, however tea, coffee and some soft drinks will be served throughout the day, with some snacks potentially around also. Toilet and kitchen facilities are on-site.

We have parking available outside for about 4 vehicles, please bare this in mind, if you are going to be driving down and are concerned about parking please PM me. Also bear in mind, that this day will also have a Malifaux tournament running alongside it, and as such more people will be present. What limited parking we have; will likely go very quickly.

The location is as follows; could a member from each party please PM me a mobile number for contact purposes:

Hatherton United Reformed church, Darwall Street, Walsall, West Midlands WS1 1DA (the church parking is best approached from Hatherton road; any queries on this please PM me)

mm, the 17th is "plausible" I'll have to run through a few things to make sure, knowing me I'll forget a suit fitting or somesuch lol!

Shame about the ban on Shadows and Vorlons - indeed, if I'd known that before I booked train tickets and accomodation, there'd be one less player. :( It wouldn't be so bad if you just forced the Shadows to follow the same hyperspace limits as everyone else, overriding the hyperspace mastery rules, which worked well enough in Kettering. They're definitely not invincible, at least not if I'm playing them...

Oh well, it'll have to be Army of Light, then. And I'm bringing my secret weapon. After its deployment, you'll be begging me to bring back the Shadows.

How will the Assassination game work? Strictly by the book, i.e. one side is attacker and the other is defender, or the two-way Assassination where both sides pick a target on the other side? Do you pick one target from the entire opposing team, or one from each opposing player?

the last few tournaments have seen restrictions on Ancients so it's not exactly something new. It's hardly much of a reason to consider not playing. certainly with the number of ships in your posession it's not like you can't field viable fleets.

As a team, you both agree on one ship, which will be your assassination target . . . i.e both sides, will each have an assassination target, otherwise follow the rules as normal.

I'm not adverse to shadows or vorlons being used, which is why I have allowed them in the first game, without comps other than the restrictions previously mentioned. What I DONT want, is this to become a shadow fest, so if other participants feel that allowing Ancients in the other two games, but with a comp, is what they want . . . I will modify the pack.

Sounds good.

I'd be quite happy to play Shadows in only one game, preferably the last one because that's the one where a Young Ship can be sensibly deployed. The usual restriction at Kettering is to override the hyperspace mastery rule - if everyone else is only allowed two ships in hyperspace then so are the Shadows. You could add in a further restriction (to everyone) that only one of the hyperspace ships may be War or more, to prevent someone from dropping two Young Ships, Vorlon Cruisers or Sharlins in behind the enemy fleet.

It might even be fun to put a Young Ship into the Assassination game. Normally doing that in a 4 Raid game would be near suicide, but in a mixed double game where the other player can do all sorts of fun stuff while the opposition is concentrating on the big guy, it could be interesting...

Right then guys,

I'm not sure if I have posted this up already, but the cost implications of the hall, means that once again Warlords will need to charge £10 per person for this tournament. Refreshments provided free of charge (tea, coffee, assorted soft drinks such as coke, sprite and fanta).

After consideration, I am LIFTING the ban on ancients, but I want to see self-moderation with their use, and I am instead going to restrict 'Hyperspace mastery' as indicated further in this thread.
I will not be a happy bunny, if the club appears to be subject to a binary star system, for all the shadows that might be buzzing about. Dont make me regret it lol

Hope to see you all there in a few weeks time :)

Woo-hoo! This does all sorts of nice things to my game plan. The obvious one is that I'm not restricted to fielding a Scout swarm. Another is that I don't mind playing Shadows in only one game, and as that no longer needs to be game 1, I've got something else planned for that round - not necessarily scary, but possibly amusing. It also means the Ancients can now face Psi Corps or ISA - two fleets which could make things interesting for them, and which aren't viable in game 1.

This was going to be fun anyway, now it's even more so! Roll on 17th November...
