Hmm? A suitable proxy for the Omicron and the Dark Star?

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what models would make suitable proxies for the above (semi-) official ships which have been unvealed?

Ideally i would be looking for the Omicron to fit into the same style as the other crusade ships, probably sitting between a Chronos and a Marathon, and the Dark star looking suitably shadowy/earth like?

I know scratch building is one option, or converting existing ships but I'm not all that fond of the idea of cutting up my existing ships.

So far, I've already looked at ground zero games range of Full Thrust mini's, but couldn't see anything which looked like it would fit.

So, hopefully some kind soul on here will know of a suitable range of mini's which might fit this square shaped hole?

whilst i tend to use the charybdis for , well the charybdis, it is equally suitable for the Omicron, should I ever consider using one, suitably downstatted of course.

I suppose something from the Dindrensi or Terran fleets from the impending Firestorm Armada game which is alledgedly being launched next month could do at a pinch for the Omnicron. Difficult to tell exactly re scaling.

I myself will be going the scratchbuild route of course.

There were also some interesting EA fururistic designs from a well reknowed German modeller on the forum. Do a Search for those for some inspiration. If I remember correctly "Charybdis"

Gregg is spot on for a dark white star, but I think the shadow nemesis of a white star in the std B5 universe needs to be reimagined. So again I would design & scratchbuild.

E-Bay is possibly a good route to go for B5 ships for chopping up.

If I was thinking of an easy conversion the Myrmidon with some spines would be probably just sleek enough. Would also explain the Myrmidon which doesn't quite fit with the rest of the EA style.

don't get me into marketing mode, I get all carried away, and come up with blinding ideas that are technically unfeasible.. but if only they worked i would be a millionaire!

mm, should I renew my Chartered institute of marketing membership do you think?

No I would ask for a ref............ (Ony joking. Don't want to re-awaken the sarcastic Hiff -Eough re-awakening today, "Dilgar Armegeddon" anyone, next thing it will be redesigned std Whitestar)

Besides my failing is coming up with blindingly, technically feasible, ideas that make no marketing sense.

Off the top of my head, another easy conversion possibity for the Dark Star would be based around the body of a shadow scout, (maybe trimmed at the rear maybe not), joined to the rear half of a Chronos, joint filled as necessary. Adding a few of the longer scout tendrils along the flanks, not too many though.

Maybe some short stubby plasticard wings at the rear of the Chronos would also help. Either 2 horizontal or better still 4 in a St Andrews cross configuration.

Been mulling over my last conversion idea;

Another possibility is filing down the front half of the Chronos at a 45 degree angle.

Then reverse the shadow scout body and fix on top.

Add the shortest tendrils to their normal locations now on the front of the new ship but facing forward,(may have to bend the nose up slightly) probably 4 but might also look OK or better with 8.

I would still probably add wings at the rear but would change them to curved forward & relatively narrow / close to the hull, rather than short & stubby, maybe with underslung subtle weapons. Might get away with the long scout tendrils but think this would make it more Shadow than EA, still worth a comparison though.

I think this would be a sleek looking Shadow tech derived, Psi Corp/Ea Black ops vessel designed, from the ground up, as direct oponent to the Whitestar.

Might even give this one a try while I can still buy

How big is the Fleet Action Warlock? With a bit of surgery, that might serve as an Omicron in ACTA scale.

For the Dark Star, I like the Myrmidon conversion. The Myrmidon stats indicate a ship of about the right size (similar damage and crew), with two forward facing weapons, and although it's not atmospheric as the Dark Star is, the Myrmidon looks more atmosphere capable than the Chronos. Besides, you can steal some spines from a Shadow Scout to make the Myrmidon into a Dark Star, then use what's left of the Scout for whatever Skirmish ship the Shadows eventually get. ;)

The Omicron is essentially a stubby marathon.

Shorter forward section with no "boom" to the engine pod. also its engine pod will look more like the warlocks (but not quite).

But I have an brand new idea for the omicron, also. 8)

With the constraint of only using available compoents and keeping any conversion simple, I sketched up a few ideas yesterday lunchtime. (takes me a day from paper to screen however). The sketches were rushed but
hopefully are clear enough.

Psi - Myrmidon

PsiMyrmidonPost.jpg

Does what it says on the tin, very simple conversion. Do I see it as atmospheric - Yes, Do I see it as a White Star equivalent - Eh No.

You can add more tendrils, or repositiion to your hearts content but at the end of the day will be a Myrmadon with tendrils stuck on.

The sketch does show one point, the flat plate, (rear top) is crying out for a weapon system. What passed through my mind was adding some shadow fighters, (or shadow Furies?) to dipict additional weapons here or underslung on the fat wings. (or even on the front fuselage sides or underslung), remember to be consitent with the ship weapon stats however.

The Psi - Chronos

PsiChronosPost.jpg

Quite a mean looking ship, more complex conversion but still relatively simple (if sticking tendrils on scouts can ever be considered simple). basically a scout cut in half through its centre and stuck on each side of the Chronos.

So .........easy conversion - well on the easy side. looks the part? - Yep. could it be atmospheric?... maybe, but probably not. Do I see as a jinking darting White Star killer? - No way.

By the way if you go the route there is another possibility, first cut off a slice of the shadow scout front section incorporating the pincers. Then half, lengthwise, the remainder of the scout body. Position the pincer section on the front & underside of the chronos, filing the Chronos down as necessary. position the other two pieces of scout, still on the flanks of the Chronos but move them forward, clearing the engines. For this one I would probably add the Shadow tendrils facing both forwards and backwards. Might make the ship look sleeker.

Quite like the aggresive look of this ship so will probably have a go in any case.

The Dark Star

DarkStar1Post.jpg

Going with two scouts fixed overlapping front to front the rest is fairly obvious from my rushed sketch, which does not do it justice;

Atmospheric - Yep, Simple conversion - Yep, Could it be an equal for a Whitestar - Oh yes. (screams let me at it, probably literally in this case).

As drawn there is no EA influence on the design, so I would add a few interceptors and a bridge, e.g the style of the Chronos bridge and position either in mid join section or on the front hump.

there are many other possibilities of course with EA bits.

Must admit I would be hardpushed to scratch build a desgn that would markedly improve on this conversion for a true Darkstar.
