getting started

Mongoose
It's hard to tell where to start with B5. I have a fleet box and the revised starter rules. (40 bucks for two think paperback books)--ouch.

I get that the various races have their own suplements, but If I want the core rules should I get the sky full of stars hardback? What about the armegeddon supplement? Should I wait for a new version?

Should I dump the models I bought? Is this game dying?

Thanks,

David

THe only race books are The Drakh, and kind of The Earth Minvaro War, though that's more of a campaign setting.

Other than that there are new race fleets downloadable for free in iissues of Signs & Portents available from the main Mopngoose website.

If you want the core rules, then you have them, that's what the Revised Box Set is. However if you want to get the more advanced and up to date rulesets then yes you need to buy Sky Full of Stars and the Armageddon (in that order).

No the game is not dying, a 2nd edition isplanned for later this year, so that might make you put off buying SFOS and Armageddon and just wait for the 2nd edition rules.

Have a look round the forums for more information, plenty of helpful people kicking about here.

It is not dying here in Cincinnati, as our group has just gotten started into B5. In a couple of months we plan to run a campaign after we become more familiar with the rules. From this we have one individual that has bought the Victory at Sea rules, and I just sold all my Micronauts. Oh well, guess can have something new to buy figs. for.

dont forget the dilgar LBH, they have a fleet book too and if you forget them you may get a visit from the forums Dilgar mafia :)

Like a lot of games, ACTA probably goes through regional fads- for example, here in Central Texas, we only just started getting into the game in a very big way. There were others who played it a bit, but not the extent to which it is being played now.

But any game, over time, loses players as the 'next big thing' comes out. The trick is to keep the game fresh- campaigns, new releases, new models, 2nd ed rulebooks (nudge nudge).

Also, only Mongoose knows how the game is doing internationally, from their sales figures. From your neck of the woods, its hard to tell.

(Heck, there are places in the country that are still playing Empire 3! And I've just revealed my grognardy colors.......)
