Fusion Gun/Turret typo? [Highguard update 2022]

Fusion Bay and Barbette are TL12 but Fusion Turret is TL14?

I'm guessing this is a slight oversight or typo? (Even just comparing other Bay-to-Barbette-to-turret examples).
It seems in most other cases there is no change when dealing with the smaller weapon systems

Thanks

Highguard(2016) lists Fusion Bay and Barbette as TL12. Unfortunately there is no Fusion Turret listed so I can not compare it to this edition.
Turrets are much smaller so it might be the reasoning that the miniaturization requires a higher tech level.

Yeah it was an addition to the previous version (which has other concerns). It does seem a little off from the established "miniaturizations" however - given that they dont seem to suffer a TL increase. Also, is it really miniaturization given that it drops by 1D damage, 3 AP, and a damage multiple of 3?

As you've mentioned, it is not a clear "error" because it is a new edition - it just seems... off :) Thank you for the reply!

Since I'm currently looking over bay weapons, I note there some oddities.

Plasma is at technological level eleven, and at most, there would be only two levels difference between the two.

It probably is twelve.

Just a thought - if you guys will give it some thought... :)

Miniaturization didnt seem to effect things going from large bays to small or medium bays or to barbettes. The only other odd example that does this isthe Particle barbette to Particle turret - and even then the TL jump is a 1.

But, even that is odd given that Particle bays to barbettes, or all other barbettes to turrets do not have a miniaturization penalty. Really seems like just an oversight given the consistency in all the others.

Pretty much depends.

In theory, the Terrans invented the Meson spinal mount at technological level twelve, and the Imperium miniaturized it to a meson sled by fifteen.

In between, we have bays at eleven (small), twelve (medium) and large (thirteen), updated, whereas in High Guard 2.0 they were all technological level eleven.

The fusion turret was transferred from optional to canon, leaving that technological level fourteen in tact, whereas it seems obvious from barbette, that it's plasma technological level plus one.

Just for comparison:

Beam laser barbette
Pulse laser barbette
Rail gun barbette
Missile Barbette
Plasma barbette

Do not have an increase in TL when they go from Barbette to Turret.

To your point however, it would seem 12 is accurate for fusion gun. I just cracked open that massive book known as T5, and interestingly - Almost all the TLs are aligned with what we have and as you've indicated - Fusion gun is at a TL12 in that too :)

Like you said, it probably was because fusion gun was previously "high technology" rather than base :)

If you dig out High Guard LBB:5 (79 or 80) the fusion gun turret is TL12.

Ignore the MgT2e TL14.
That is certainly one possible approach.
On the other hand Mongoose Traveller introduced some things that differ from the classic Little Black Books(LBB), e.g. in character creation.

The Third Imperium is still the Third Imperium, and in the Third Imperium according to extant canon the fusion turret is TL12.

Since I don't own these book I have to ask, is it listed in the book The Third Imperium? Does Highguard(Update 2022) state that it is a Third Imperium (only) weapon?
Should different races have different Tech Level for the same item?

This has been an ongoing discussion on many things but I think the closest to canon direction is what Condottiere said. In fact, I would say that given the direction we had (at least prior to the MGT 2022 update), it was pretty clear that we had to align to many T5 and other traveller-classic anachronistic things.
