EA Players - Some Omega ideas....

CodeofArms

Mongoose
Hello,
Well with the Warlock being promoted to Armageddon and fleet lists now in three seperate era's alot of EA players are feeling the loss of a our premier war-level choice front-line scrapper. Ignoring any logistical problems with the Poseidon, the back-up choice to the warlock is the Command Omega; which in my honest opinion is an absolute catatrophe of a ship.

So I present a request for assistance to try and supe-up the pride of the EA fleet so it can command fear and respect on the battlefield. In a recent thread; "No Good War for EA"

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23137

I put forward this suggestion to revise the Command Omega;

Command Omega (War)

Speed: 7 Damage: 58/10 Craft: 4 Starfuries
Hull: 6 Turn: 1/45 Crew: 68/14 Special: Command 2, Interceptors 4, JP

Weapon:
Heavy Laser Cannon 30" B 8AD BM, DD, SAP
Heavy Laser Cannon 30" B(a) 6AD BM, DD, SAP
Heavy Pulse Cannon 12" F 12AD Twin-Link, AP
Heavy Pulse Cannon 12" A 8AD Twin-Link, AP
Medium Pulse Cannon 12" P 8AD Twin-Link
Medium Pulse Cannon 12" S 8AD Twin-Link
Particle Beams 6" T 6AD Anti-Fighter.

The eventual ship that was play tested (battle report to follow soon) actually had 2 more damage points that the one above. In general the vessel performed quite admiraly in a 5pt Battle game vs. the Minbari eveb going so far as to beat up a Tinashi enough for a pair of Olumpus's to finish her off. Unfortuneatly the Command Omega was destroyed, quite spectacularly; a big blow but not total loss.

In the name of development, a recent debate amongst my play group saw the Command Omega and Omega ship as a rich testbed for tweaking and refit ideas to make it a solid replacement for the war level priority. Some suggestions are;

1. Changing weapon load out to match Shadow Omega
2. Tweaking weapon properties (Heavy pulse cannons with AP)
3. Addition of Railguns (F/A) and/or Missile Racks (SL, P/S)
4. New Ship-Gear such as Flight Computer, Adv Jump-Engines etc

Please use this thread to discuss any variants/ideas/plans for galatic domination you have for the Omega chassis; i'll get that battle report done as quickly as i can (man i hate scribbled notes!)

1. Changing weapon load out to match Shadow Omega

That cant happen due to the Shadow omega has Shadow tech

3. Addition of Railguns (F/A) and/or Missile Racks (SL, P/S)

Not gonna happen i think its out dated tech

Voting no on options 1 and 4. No Shadow Tech available when most of the command omegas were built, and the same goes for some of niftier ship traits that the Crusade Era ships have.

I'd go for the following changes

Speed 5 (same size frame, same size power plant as regualr omega but with much heavier weapons and armor. more guns=less speed)

Reduce Aft, P, and S Pulse down to 6AD and F down to 10AD
Change P/S Pulse to Heavy Pulse and add AP. Possibly increase range of all Pulse Cannons to 15"
Reduce B arc Beams, fore and aft, down to 6AD/4AD
Add B Arc Heavy Plasma Cannon 8" B 10AD SAP DD SL.
Change Particle beams back to P/S arcs 4AD each.

Add B Arc Heavy Plasma Cannon 8" B 10AD SAP DD SL.

Bore sounds a bit too restrictive especially for a DD slow-loader. Perhaps 10AD of forward arc Railguns; range 10" AP DD? Or a slow loading Heavy Railgun 6AD 12" SAP Triple Damage? Compared to all other War level ships the Command Omega serioulsly punches well below its weight class and pops alot easier. I disagree that interceptors are key to the longevity of Omegas since at war level you fight alot of beam vessles and no one with their right mind would close intentionally.

We then get:
Command Omega (War)

Speed: 5 Damage: 60/10 Craft: 4 Starfuries
Hull: 6 Turn: 1/45 Crew: 68/14 Special: Command 2, Interceptors 4, JP

Weapon:
Heavy Laser Cannon 30" B 6AD BM, DD, SAP
Heavy Laser Cannon 30" B(a) 4AD BM, DD, SAP
Heavy Pulse Cannon 15" F 10AD Twin-Link, AP
Heavy Pulse Cannon 15" A 6AD Twin-Link, AP
Heavy Pulse Cannon 15" P 10AD AP Twin-Link, AP
Heavy Pulse Cannon 15" S 10AD AP Twin-Link, AP
Particle Beams 6" P/S 6AD Anti-Fighter.
Railguns 10" 10AD, AP DD

The railguns may seem overkill but if you compare the command omega to other war-vessles its actually rather tame; an Octurion has better lasers (forward arc) a Bin'tak and G'Quonth have better secondaries, a Sharlin has stealth and better beams.

Actually, we are already ahead of you on this :)

Look out for a new Omega Command Destroyer and a revised model very soon. . .

Cheers Mongoose!

But one has to wonder....if our guesses attracted your attention..did we hit the nail on the head?

revised model? as in, a new omega mold, or a new model for a "command" variant? either way, sounds great!

Blah...not as thrilled with a new model. I like being able to use my Omegas and hate having to have a different model for every variant. It is fun to do conversions to suit your own style, but having to have 3 standard omegas for one fleet build and then a couple of pulse, and then a command, and they all are only a bit different. Just becomes too pricey to get involved with after a while, at least if you want to have more than a fleet or two. I always thought that was the purpose of the variants, variety in play wihtout having to buy sixteen different models in multiples of eight.

if the new model is intended for the variant, nothing is stopping you from still using your previous models for variants.

Its probably a recast and more detailed mould, theirs not really all that much you can do to change an omega mould except maybe adding nova-style pulse cannons.

If they do hopefully you'll get a few more 'bits' in the box. I like to convert but don't have my bits box

Yeah...I have seen those and thought about doing one myself. Just cannot bring myself to lay out the money for an extra posiedon for the upgrade. Still its one thing to do one up because you choose too, another when the 'official' model is out there and you need to be clear at a tourney. Anyway, here's hoping the model turns out nice. If we are going to have it, I'd like it to be a cool model.

Maybe an official signed petition might get it back?

Put me down, i dotn use war choices much, but it WOULD be nice to at least have one to choose from.
