So last night I played dear old Hindsight in my firstest ever game of ACTA. Needless to say, I didn't win, but I sure gave him a tough time of it for the first few turns.
Scenario, 5pt raid
my list:
1 Nova Dreadnought
1 Hyperion Heavy Cruiser
2 Sagittarius Cruisers
1 Oracle Scout Cruiser
1 Artemis Heavy Frigate
2 Tethys Cutters
3 Wings of Aurora Starfuries
Hindsight's list:
1 White Star
2 White Star IIs
3 Blue Stars
1 Dag'kar Missile Frigate
First turn, a little jockeying for position, then opening shots, a pleasant surprise for me, My Hyperion's boresight Heavy Laser Cannon manages to rip his White Star 1 in half! I was pretty excited needless to say (it was a lotta 4+s). Unfortunately his Dag'kar stayed in back with it's blast doors down the entire game popping off that dastardly Energy Mine! Well, long story short, White Stars don't take much damage at all (rounding down fractions sucks, having 3 damage turn into ONE is a punch in the crotch) and Hindsight has the uncanny ability to roll EVERY SINGLE BLUE STAR DODGE ROLL! at least enough to make sure he only takes 1-2 damage a turn. I was hoping my interceptors would help defend me, but is was the E-Mine and his beams that did all the damage.
I know I didn't do as well as I could have, especially once the chips started getting down and I started getting reckless, but I haven't got the foggiest idea how to deal with those Stars, of both the White and Blue variety. he's so fast, they take half damage, and my range is so short (generally speaking) that I can't bring my fleet to bear without making them E-Mine bait.
My first instinct is to take as many boresights and beams as I can get my little hands on, because they seem to do a crap ton of damage, AND they have decent range, but Hindsight tells me they are really difficult to set up shots with properly.
I needs help, my new brothers. Can you guys tell me what I did wrong/what I could do better/how people tend to use Earth Alliance successfully?
I'd like to know what to look for in a ship before I throw down my cash. Luckily I haven't actually dropped money on any ships yet, as they are a tad hard to come by these days, but Hindsight is going down to Game Kastle for me on Wednesday.
Thanks in Advance!
