[Dragon Warriors] Future Books

Hello fellow gamers,

Do any of you know what future books are planned for the Dragon Warriors RPG?

I'm really hoping a setting book for the Land of Legend is in the works.

There are two officially announced books, which will complete the re-publication of the original Dragon Warriors material. These are:

* The Elven Crystals: Excellent campaign, to be published soon.

* Prince Of Darkness: Another excellent campaign, to be published sometime later this year.

However, James Wallis from Magnum Opus Press has previously mentioned several potential ideas for possible brand-new future expansions if there is enough demand, as follows:

* "Archery Specialist": New rules for an archery-specialist class (like Robin Hood!), possibly with an adventure.

* "The Church": New source book covering religion, possibly with an adventure.

* "Mass Combat": New rules for full-scale battles, possibly with an adventure.

* Blood Sword: Conversions of the awesome Blood Sword series of gamebooks - now sadly out of print - into the Dragon Warriors role-playing format. The Blood Sword books were written by the Dragon Warriors authors and are set directly in the Lands Of Legend.

* GameMaster's Screen: GM-aid with added material (e.g. plot seeds, maps, background, adventure, etc.)

There is no definite information about any of the above ideas - not even titles - so we shall have to wait and see what happens. However, James has stated that the crucial element here is demand; if there is enough demand, then I am sure that he and Mongoose will be more than happy to publish lots of really cool new content beyond TEC and POD.

Now for my personal views:

I think that more high-detailed Legend info would be great. Perhaps it might be more likely to appear as a number of small, themed books (e.g. Ellesland, Crusader Lands, Frozen Lands, etc.)?

I also think that Dragon Warriors cardboard miniatures would be a really cool low-cost accessory for a GM screen!

Well, being one who missed this game when it originally released (I'm stateside...that's my excuse) I've absolutely fallen in love with the new books, and am crossing my fingers that it does well enough to warrant numerous expansions.

Same here; I didn't know anything about this game until recently. I've been playing AD&D for years, but this is my new favorite RPG. I love it - and so do my players. We're having one hell of a time!

Demand demand demand demand demand...

Is that enough demand?

Well we've got a fair bit of Bloodsword related stuff on the Dragon Warriors Wiki if that'll tide you over. :)

<stands on soapbox>

Altogether now: "We want expansions! When do we want them? Now!"

<loses balance and falls off soapbox>

Any more ideas for new DW expansions? Cool suggestions for James' ideas?

BTW, I have not seen James mention the two Golden Dragon gamebooks that are set in Legend ("Crypt of the Vampire" and "Temple of Flame"). Presumably he isn't able to obtain the rights to them. That would be a real shame, because they are great fun, too. :(

@bulya
Is the info from the Golden Dragon books also on the Wiki?

I read somewhere online - I can't remember where now - that James mentioned he'd like to find a freelance writer who would develop dwarf and elf books. These books would contain not only world information about demihumans, but also offer Professions specific to each race. I think that would be great.

I've said it before, but I'd really, really, like to see a nice, fully detailed book on the world of Legend. More on the cultures, more detailed maps, religions, trade, festivals and holidays, etc.

I think a book full of goods and gear would be cool too. More about medieval arms and armor as well as details on castle construction.

I would love to see a "Western Lands" expansion, based on real-world Native American culture. It's already been touched on in Mungoda Gold, so why not go all the way? I can imagine that those lands would be more easily accessible than in the real world too, and so would be ripe for discovery (and exploitation!) by returning crusaders who's rapacious ways are just not welcome back in their homelands. :D

Speaking of weapons & armour - for anybody that doesn't yet know - Magnum Opus Press have a bunch of essential Dragon Warriors documents on their downloads page:

* Additional Weapons (by Colin Chapman)
* Expanded Armour (by Wayne Imlach)
* Rulebook Errata
* Bestiary Errata
* Sleeping Gods Errata

Um, Mungoda gold is based on looting the tomb of an exiled Kaikhuran(Egyptian) noble from Mungoda which is Legends version of Africa........

GreyArea13 on the Dragwars Yahoo Group has previously mentioned that, although they are not set in Legend, two Virtual Reality gamebooks ("Down Among the Dead Men" and "Necklace of Skulls") are a good source of inspiration for creating western pirates & aztecs scenarios, respectively. Both books are written by Dave Morris and are well worth tracking down.

@Bulya
You talked me into volunteering! :D

Man I wish I had seen this back the nearly 2 months ago so I knew it was there. I've been working on characters and such for a DW demo at Gamestorm (Portland, end of March), and some of the info just wasn't right. Last night I finally searched for the magnum opus page and found it, along with the vital eratta.

@GamerDude
Good luck with the demo!
Thanks!

I don't really understand the point of cons.

But I'm interested in how the demo went.:)

Ok, for me the point of a con is to meet new people especially getting to play with someone other than my regular group, and to introduce folks to the games I like/enjoy.

The demos went ok. I had nicely printed character sheets (set up one in PowerPoint).

Unfortunately, I hit a snag. I read through the adventure several times before the con and missed a few fine points. We worked it out in the end.

I will tell you what, it is very hard for five rank 1 characters to take on a rank 7 (as is in the book in the module).

The following book was recently announced by Magnum Opus Press:

* "Friends or Foes": A large collection of NPCs. Status: In progress.

Apart from FOF, two more books appear to be mentioned in the the DW Writer's Guidelines & FOF Call for Submissions, as follows:

* <untitled>: Basically, it's DW-does-Robin Hood! :D Appears to contain a new character class & adventure, set within Albion(?). Status: In progress.

* "Lands of the Fey": A sourcebook covering the fairy realms, including Elves & Dwarves(?). Status: Under consideration.

I can't wait!
