Dilgar and Cantauri in 2e

We had our first 2e game today, 5point raid space superiority. I took 1 primus, 2 centurions, 2 vorchan. (I've been hanging out to try them) My opponant took 1 bintak, 1 scout, 1 thrantus. I didn't read the entering from hyperspace rules properly, (only got the pdf today) and nearly got goosed when the damn bintak roared into the game behind me, and let rip, thanks to the scout. Still, thanks to a lot of sucessful come abouts, and my vorchans entering play behind him, I still managed to teach those grubby narns a lession. Even if I only had one centurion left at the end of the game. (It was the only ship left on the table)

What I did notice was that while ion cannons are ok against hull 6, they are awesome against hull 4 and 5. The vorchans riped the narn skirmish ships apart, before piling in to help what was left of my big ships with the bintak. The game machanics are also pretty sound, although the new beam rule can be a bit frightening. The bintak roasted a centurion in just about one shot when it arrived, with just its beam. The changes to the centauri do force a different type of gameplay, it felt odd charging into the fray all guns blazing. Instead of standing off and beaming like mad, as in 1e. I think it is a far less forgiving of mistakes style of play for the centauri.

Interesting report. A war ship was a gamble at raid, and it looks like it didn't work out. If I'd been in your place I'd have dropped the second Centurion for two more Vorchans or Demos, though. Although, the Centauri are spoiled for choice now...

I would have dropped both Centurions and gone for a Elutarian or Sullust for one (if you want stand off firepower) plus a Demos and Maximus for the other.............. :)

In hindsight this would have been a more sound choice, but as it was my first 2e game I wanted to try a mix of ships from different levels. Also since it was the first game in the battle on the rim tournament pack the centurion got an upgrad to dodge 6, and because it did sterling work killing a bintak I even named it. But the only centauri work I could think of on the fly was bravadi, so bravadi it was. Now my ship is named after booze.

Demos do rock.
Fired a squadron of two at a G'varhn with the Torps & ions at Ka Toc.
The response from the Narn player was " Those F%$& things have to die" unfortunateny they did from G'varhn with a nasty 6-6 crits & explosions also taking the next Demos squadron. Was squezzed between Drazi & Narn fleet. Wasn't pleasant for first couple of rounds.

I was hoping that the Sulust Escort Destroyer would , naturally, get the escort trait. Seems ideal too since base on the fluff behind it, it supports the big ships by engaging support elements. Also would give you a raid escort choice, freeing up your skirmish slots for the iconic vorchans :) wonder if the neglection was a oversight perhaps.

surely this ship is for destroying escorts not for escorting ships

you are not taking Centauri names at face value are you - my Dear Good Friend - thats not how we work................. :D

I know i know. Centauri naming traditions. Cave people making up children names :p.

(Gotta let the Narn in me out :D)
