Creating battledress - Mount Point Weapons - help! :)

Page 47, Supplement 5-6, Vehicle Handbook:

"In addition to Slots, battle dress may also mount heavy weapons in Mount Points. Mount Points are areas of a suit that can be locked and stabilised to withstand the recoil of a heavy weapon. Mount Points allow vehicle-scale heavy weapons to be used with battle dress. Each Space of heavy weapons on a vehicle requires eight Slots on battle dress. A 1 Space weapon can be arm-mounted, taking up the entire arm. A 2 Space weapon can be shoulder mounted, while 3 Space weapons have to be back-mounted."

A table on page 47 then shows some mount weapons with Space requirements (1,2 or 3). Do those weapons then require 8, 16 or 24 slots on the suit? I dont see why some mount point weapons may be excluded and others not, just because they're labelled as "vehicle" weapons?

Thanks

Yes, that would be my understanding.

Not quite sure what you mean here. The weapons on p 47 are examples of heavy, normally vehicle-mounted weapons. These and more are available in other parts of the book too, and all have a stat called "spaces" that describes, well, how much space they require. 1 space can be translated to 8 slots on the battledress scale. I can see some confusion since the other battledress charts speak of slots and this one has spaces, but that's due to the size difference of the weapons. Spaces are used throughout the book for other categories of weapons, and any of those could, probably, be installed on battledress too, following the above conversion.

Any weapon from the slot category could have its size measured in spaces, and everything in the battledress could use the same spaces that the other vehicles use, but since there's such a size difference between the two, presumably it was seen as simpler to just create a new unit for BD gear.

Hope that helps, and that I'm not just rambling :)

Common sense should also used. For example, an energy weapon has no recoil, but firing say a 90mm shell would. There's also the idea of stability, as no matter what mechanism you use, aside from cheating with gravitics, physics is still a bitch when it comes to recoil. That energy has to go somewhere.

The rule also doesn't cover the over-sized elephant in the room - all the other stuff associate with the weapon - either ammunition or energy packs. Almost always those are going to be mounted on the back, with the weapon mounted on the arm(s) or shoulders. And keep in mind the type of weapon will affect the mounting portion too. An indirect fire weapon, like a mortar, is best mounted on your back, but direct fire weapons not so much - unless you plan on getting on all fours to fire that plasma cannon on your back at the enemy! An indirect fire weapon, like a mortar, is best mounted on your back, but direct fire weapons not so much.

Pft, what's wrong with back-mounted plasma cannons? The phrase "drop and give me twenty!" Suddenly changes from punishment to fire support, while the firer presents a smaller target :-)

Not sure if the back mount could include some form of swivel mount that allows the user to aim, perhaps at an increase in slot-use?

And yes, ammo would need to go somewhere. Doesn't the book cover that, listing how many spaces is required for extra ammo?

Here's a nice battle dress!

I prefer PMPG's1 myself....

1That's Pelvis Mounted Plasma Guns, and I blame the TML and Doug Berry specifically though Kenji may have had a hand in that too....
