Class opinions

I have just signed up for an online campaign that uses Klooge to play Conan. The characters already in the group are a Cimmerian Barbarian, a Gunderman Borderer/Soldier, a Gunderman Soldier and, a Zamoran Noble.

I had a couple ideas for what kind of character I'm going to play. I am tossing around the idea of playing a Nordheimer (Aesir) Barbarian or a Corinthian Soldier. What are the advantages of each do you all think and which do you think is better from a min/max perspective?

Thanks in advance!

I think that you may find this thread to be an informative read.

In short, they are both tough fighters. Barb is more offensive while Soldier makes a great meatshield. Soldier has a heavier dependence on equipment but is also one of the few (only) classes able to persue multiple feat chains early on which can offer some suprising flexibility if built right. Both are suited to Min/Maxing but persue different strategies.

Hope that helps.

Well a Nordhiemir with a war sword can be a rather deadly foe. That's probably the best route for max carnage. Plus depending ont he setting the Norse type ideals could be a really cool contrast to most places.

The Corthinian Soldier could be a beats as well with a greatsword or Bardiche. Plus the adaptabilty could help with spot an listen. Of course the Soldier suffers a bit sinc eit's based on aprry and ranged attacks can be a bit bothersome but with a shield or wepaon you can buold the defense of a Soldier up rather high.

Guess it depends. The Barbarian should eba easier to be a hoss with the killin but the Soldier will be easier to build up for defence.

There's that thing about the soldiers formation combat class features you might want to consider. Sure they look nice but they only kick in when you're with a certain number of other soldiers with the same feature. You kinda loose out on that when you're in a small group of PCs.

Well, we may need another melee damage dealer because I was told that our Cimmerian Barbarian is possibly not going to be able to return to play anymore.

You might want to try an Asir Brawler, the Soldier/Barbarian multiclass from Hyboria's Finest. This may not translate into a computer game though. They can gain unarmed Sneak Attack dice in place of formations. Just an idea.

It's likely useful to have some sort of context for the game you are playing. The group is currently heavily oriented toward straight up combat; if that's all the group is ever going to engage in, then I could see why you'd want to try to min/max a fighter. If the game has any sort of variety, a scholar or thief should be tremendously helpful.

"Argos and Zingara" has barbarians that get Power Attack instead of Track. Don't see this needing further comment.
